I want to teach my students a good Canadian song.

I don't want to rule out the national anthem, but would prefer something fun and suitable for young learners.

I need something I can find on the web.

Any ideas?

That's not bad, but I'm trying to think of something in the "Wheels on the Bus" or "Bingo" genre.

"This Land is Your Land" maybe.

That would be a Woodie Guthrie song, American.

You might look into Raffi, or Sharon, Lois, & Bram -- topnotch Canadian childrens performers. They do a lot of covers but I think you could find some originals to download.

We just steal the original and add Canadian place names.

Good suggestions. This proves the usefulness of message boards, seeing as I can't think very well.

How old are your students?

For really young kids I'd go with Sharon Lois and Bram for sure- the elephant song, or Skinamarink would be good.

Grade three to six. Low level English. If it is too childish they will think it is retarded, but they won't understand complex lyrics at all.

"The Cat Came Back" by Fred Penner

My kindergarteners loved to dance to this. They didn't know all the lyrics though, just the chorus.

Sharon Lois and Bram would be great then. The older ones will have blast with "I am slowly going crazy"- will lookfor lyrics tonight

If all else fails, teach them "Baby bumble bee" with the actions. Not Canadian, but a big hit at my school.
