I was warned about this Dry Cleaners because they messed up on someone's clothes and would not reimburse them.
I have been going there for over a year. Yesterday I took some clothes there and they began excitedly speaking to me in Korean. My Korean is no where as good as "The Beavers", so I did not understand most of what they were saying, however I sussed out this much:
They lost someone's good Parkland suit and they want to come to my apartment and see if it is here. They showed me this one suit with the brand name "Hugs and Kisses" and I told them it was not mine. They thought, maybe they gave me the Parkland instead of the Hugs and Kisses.
I went back there today to get my laundry and they went at me again. Thge owner was ready to come to my apartment with me to look at my clothes. I refused to let him! He stated that he had done this with all the other customers?????
I tried to make him understand that I only have my clothes.
He followed me out and was trying to follow me home. He kept asking people if they spoke English. One of my old students walked by and said hello to me so he grabbed her. He asked her if I was an Instructor and she said yes. I told her not to tell him anything about me. He finally gave up and left.
I feel very angry about this. It is unbelievable.
'
He will not come to my house unless the police come as well. I do not trust him.
I may go back at 3:00 with a fluent English speaker and go through it again with him.
I just hope he does not bother me at my workplace.
Is this a cultural thing? Am I missing something here?
If it escalates further, I will get the police involved. |

| I wouldn't let him come to my place, but this calling the cops thing seems a bit over the top- you must be able to see the situation from this guy's perspective, he's just trying to find a lost suit after all. |

Yes, but to come to someone's home to inspect their closet rather than taking their word for it seems over the top.
They keep their finished clothes on a rack outside their shop. Anyone could take a jacket and never be seen. If they did give the wrong jacket out then it is thier mistake. If I had received the wrong clothes, I would have returned it for my own.
Warning lights go off if a stranger asks to come and inspect my closet and wants to know where I live.
I am a fluent English speaker who is going uop there with me at 3PM.
oh, by the way, I think it is time to change cleaners. |

Its so typical, a few weeks ago my friend got a knock on the door, it was her neighbour from upstairs, whose hagwon students bicycle had been stolen, she thought my friend might have it!! Jamsil is a big area and somehow she managed to single out my friend to see if she had stolen some kids bicycle from the area, why are foreigners the first target!!!??? |

According to the Samsung Group's chairman, Lee Kun-hee, to succeed globally, Korea must forgo the thought that Korea and being Korean is superior, and foreign specialists must be treated with respect. If Korean companies follow this standard, Korea's institutions of higher learning cannot afford to do less.

Foreigners Experience Difficulties in Living in Korea
"Even though Korea has achieved some degree of globalization in going abroad, it has still a long way to go for globalization in embracing foreigners inward," said foreigners residing in Korea. An official in the International Cooperation Division of Seoul City admitted, "The same complaints regarding visas, transportation, education, and environment are raised every year without being solved, due to the lack of cooperation from government agencies involved and their passive attitudes."

Superhero I second that.
RR stop posting links to online articles. Now I realize that you are living in your own reality and probably have some sort of mental disorder, but go post your tripe somewhere other than here.

Whoa, unbelievable.
Dont take his word that he did that with the other customers - he is lying.
You have a right to get angry. Infact, I think the solution is to get angry. Obviously he is trying to run roughshod over your human rights. This is definately not a cultural issue, although he no doubt suspects you because you are a foreigner.
So outrageous was it that I actually wrote something in Korean that you might say to him.
   ̾߱ ϱ. Ϸ ϴٴ ̻ϱ. ġ ٰ ϰ ־. ϴ ʴ ڴ Ѵ. 뼭 ؿ!
You really do talk arrant nonsense, dont you. To think that you want to enter somebody's house and investigate is very strange. I told you I didnt steal it. Whether you believe that or not is up to you. I will not permit you entry to my house.
Then follow up angrily (preferably in front of other customers)
Դٰ ° ʴ ϴ ΰ? ̴ϱ ʰ ڰ?
On top of that, why am I falling under suspicion? Its your mistake so you are bad, right?
I doubt he would be able to withstand that. The result would likely be abject apology. |

I took my Korean friend there and she spoke to them. She said they just wanted to check the labels on my suits to see if I had the other suit, that they did not want to look through my closet. She said they were very nice people and were very apologetic for any misunderstanding.
I guess things easily escalate when we are in these types of situations.
Anyway, I did over react. |

And how will they check the labels on your suit unless they look through your closet? Maybe you could have brought all your suits out and laid them at the doorstep for inspection. A misunderstanding implies that both parties are at fault, but in this case one of the workers messed up and you ended up being hassled for it. |

I did not make the question. I did not make the articles for the online newspapers.
Are you having a little trouble with Real Reality? Do you like Virtual Reality better?
