You need to get the proper codec to play the file properly. The file is compressed a certain way so you need to have the right programme (or whatever) to play it.
DO a search for the ACE mega codec pack. This should help you out.

If you have a non-legit copy of Windows, you don't really expect any automatic features to work, right? (maybe it does, but I wouldn't expect it to)

If it's legit, then your configuration is stopping the automatic codec download from completing. Perhaps your security settings are too high in the "options" menu, you have disabled automatic updates or automatic codec downloads, or something along these lines.

Resetting all to default will probably change the situation.

Look for the "Aceman's mega pack" codec bundle. It will solve all of your problems. That, or get the VLC player, which will handle just about anything.

Also download the "kazaa lite codec pack"

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

It basically bundles everything you'll ever need. Another "go to" app videLAN: http://www.videolan.org/ This seems to play almost any avi/mpeg/wmf you'll find.
