I am looking into taking a job at this school. Does anyone know about this school- good, bad, or otherwise?
Thanks! |

Its a brand new school-has yet to open, so there will be no info on it really, good or bad.
Have a friend who was hired a month ago by them...last 3 weeks he has just lounged in the office, and drawn up lesson plans.
Seem to have money backing them, which is what you want to se in a new hogwan. |

Just keep in mind that SLP means, "Slave Labor Program" to many former ESL teachers who left Korea.
This one may be different, but that's what many people call that chain. We had one near an old school of mine. People came and went often within 6 months. |

Thanks for the info...however, I am confused. I have been surfing around this site and their is talk of SLP Kangnam around April 2002 (not particularly good talk, however) Do you know the difference? |

As far as I know, there already is an SLP Kangnam. (I work for a different branch of SLP) Unfortunately, everything I know about the school is second hand. I would definitely recommend that you talk to as many past teachers as possible. |

I know of an SLP in Kangnam Gu, whether it is one and the same place I don't know. This particular one is in Ilwon Dong across from the Suseo Police station |

SLP Kangnam has been around for a while. Last I knew the owner was Charles Lee who also owns Haeundae SLP in Busan. I have had several friends who worked there. Some teachers love it and others hate it. The teachers that have had trouble do so right before they leave. The school tends to hold out on plane tickets and stuff like that. There have been rumors that the owner does illegal things but that is just rumor as far as I know.
As far as SLP standing for Slave Labor Program, each SLP is independently owned and runs differently, so find out about your specific one. If you PM me, I can send you some email addresses of teachers who have worked there. |

my friend works for SLP in Mokdong and has no problems with her school. She has judged speech contests where the students from SLP Kangnam have come. She says there English is good and they are well behaved.
I got offered a job at the SLP in Kangnam last week. I asked for a higher salary then they offered (they offered me 1.8 ) They were willing to give me 1.9. Sorry but I make that now and if its such a big school how come they wouldn't give me the salary i asked for (2.1). Oh well...got a different job anyway |

There's a brand new SLP in Seocho-gu that's opening soon. It's near the Express Bus Terminal (and across the street from my apartment building).
It looks like a good place, nicely renovated and colorfully decorated. I inspected the posters in their windows last night and they've got a website listed, if you're curious. |

Sorry, should of known Kangnam was too large to not be more specific...
The new one I know of is in Gangnam-gu, right out of exit 1 I think. Like I said, my buddy hasnt started truly working there yet, but he seems to like it, and the other foreign teachers I met from there this weekend are wicked cool. |

Every school in a franchise can be different. I thought about taking an SLP job, but figured with the 40 hours per week they wanted me to work as compared to the standard 30 hours, you would be teaching four extra months during a year for the same pay as other hogwans.
I also know someone working at SLP Suwon that is now doing 12 hour days for the same pay. The never seem to pay over time. |
