My hagwon is refusing to pay for my plane ticket and I'm sure won't be paying severance either. I intend to sue them if it takes all of that money to do so. Does anyone know of any lawyers who speak (at least) a little English in Suwon? |

Look!! Up There!!! ^^^^^^^^^ Why, its a link! A link to a law website that specializes in EFL-Law!!!
Who would have ever thought that a link would be that conspicuous, yet not seen?

Just a tip:
An attorney will probably cost more than the plane ticket. |

Full sympathies.
Labor board call center translator (may be useful). 02872 9797
Isn't it strange that you have to spend all the money you make on legal proceedings simply to make sure they pay you? only in Korea... |

You can always file a claim against the hagwon in small claims court. The clerk will take your statement and any evidence you have (your contract, pay slips, bankbook and transfer records, etc.) and any witnesses you may call on to give testimony (or swear out a statement). They will also translate it for the judge. Minimal cost to you.
Check out this site http://www.scourt.go.kr/english/civil.html for basic info on the procedure.
If you have to come to Seoul, the court and public prosecutor's office is near on line 2.
Cheers and good luck. |

And voila, useful information. I really like the small claims court idea, and I think I have grounds to go before them before the end of my contract.
(jeezus, I only asked if anyone knew a lawyer. I have visited EFLlaw fer christsskakes.)
Thanks everyone. |
