If a father cuts his daughter's hair off and her mother allows it to happen then most likely you'll end up with a girl that never listens to her mom.

BUT, I wasn't there when the dad cut her hair.

Maybe her mother was begging him to stop and that is why he was doing it-to make the mother show she cared about their daughter..eeesh... no way....or maybe the mom cut the girl's her hair off and the father took the blame for it? Maybe they have an insane son who raped and then cut his sister's hair off...on and on...what do we know?

was it kenny rogers? nah, who was it?

...cause no one knowsssss what gooooooes on behind cloooooooosed doooooors...

Speculation, speculation and speculation. So i'm adding mine.

Was that punishment that cruel? What if the girl lied to her parents, did not go to school, stayed overnight drinking even having sex at the age of 15? What if she continuously ignored all the anxieties she were giving them? Isn't the girl's behavior cruel enough to justify that kind of punishment? What do you think? Confused

in reflection, I wouldn't say this is a sad story. Nice sign that discipline is still applied in this world.

Isnt this a terribly old thread? remember reading this maybe a year ago? just wondering if this a new one? As to the topic, haha, what a novel and profound way of punishing a girl. Maybe she did something especially terrible, we just dont know. so before the moral brigade start stmping their feet about child abuse, think about what knid of act deserves this. maybe she cut off her little brothers hair (or sisters, mothers grandmothers etc) of flushed her rat like puppy down the toilet, stole 100 grand outa the old mans wallet etc. she'll never perform the act again, whatever she did. I applause the creativity, if only i knew what she did to deserve it!

Heard a similar story from a Taiwanese friend. A girl in her class apparently did something she shouldn't have, and the father shaved her head. All her friends collected money to buy her a wig until her hair grew back, and once she had it back they were all jealous because she had such soft hair, like a baby Smile

This girl is in her 30s now, so happened about 15 yrs ago I guess...

i think it was the summer of 1986. or maybe fall of '88. i recall i had just stepped out of the movie theatre. no, wait. yes, yes it definitely was the summer of '86. i remember now because i had thought the day was a scorcher.

so, i was walking out of the movie theatre with my then girlfriend. well, i wouldn't really say she was my girlfriend, more like a cutie-pie whom i absolutely adored. she was supposedly going steady with this jerk from school. he always thought he was the toughest cat in the playground. great 2nd baseman, though.

she leaned in towards me, as if to plant a great big kiss on my cheek when, much to my dismay, she picked out a confetti-sized piece of paper caught in my hair. it actually turned out to be a portion of a dried up oak leaf. well, actually, come to think of it, leaves don't dry up in the summer, do they? so maybe we're talking fall '88 here.

phone's ringing. be right back...

where was i? oh yeah. while walking our usual path back home, i spotted an enormous squirrel. this squirrel looked to be the size of a mid-sized jack russell terrier. which reminds me of my first dog, a jack russell named 'alfa'. we had named him 'alfa' because he was the first of the litter at birth. light brown coat, with white splotches along the ears. cute lil fella, he was.

if only i had done a bit better in OAC biology, i would have gotten into the engineering program at waterloo. but then again, science was never really my strongsuit.

hope this advice sheds some new light on the topic...

But, a buzz cut is hardly a scandal.

It is innapropriate, it's a shame based lesson rather than a behaviour based lesson. It's humiliation, which doesn't focus the child on what they have done wrong, rather just makes them more angry and rebellious. And it's far too long lasting. In this conformity based culture of shame it's a huge punishment, unusual and cruel. The punishment should be about making the child think about what they did wrong, this will just make her more resentful of her parents, and she'll probably never forget it.

When I messed up bad at home I got three stripes on the rear with a peice of bamboo, the kicker was, I was handed a pair of cutters and I had to walk up the path and select and cut the bamboo myself, that was a long walk. But when it was over it was over and things went straight back to normal ...

What less do we all expect in a country where women are treated as chattal, mere possessions of their fathers? I don't know how wide spread this practice is, but I do know a guy whose Korean fiance's male relatives threatened to do this to her for even contemplating diluting the great Han genepool by marrying him. I wish for once women in this country would go on strike and slowly watch their useless male counterparts starve to death or die of scabies.

Cheers

Maybe I should qualify my last statement by adding that its not only Korea where this sort of action should be taken by the fairer sex. My own country could do with a similar treatment.

Punishment by humiliation is kind of normal here. I think it's over the top.

I was walking thru the market one day with a friend when we saw a middle school girl kneeling beside a vendor's cart. She was still there, still kneeling an hour later when we went by again. She was clearly being punished for something.

My friend then told me that his childhood friend was made to run thru the village with his sheet when he wet the bed.

Is there a man alive who doesn't know how to take care of this problem all by himself?

Its meant to shame them. A pretty low form of punishment if you ask me. The girl must of done something bad for that to have been done with her.

Way harsh. Theres 3 or 4 girls in my school (1000 students) marked out that way. Might just be a drunken idiot dad. The pain is real. Boys arent subject to this.
