Nobody's gonna give you their XP key because that will nullify their license and they will no longer be able to get updates from microsoft.

Go to a "store" and you can "buy" it from the "vendor" for a "price". These terms are confusing at first, but trust me, they are real words and this can be done. Wink

If not this way, then get P2P and struggle trying to stay one step ahead of MS.

It strikes me as odd that one would want a copy of some software that is absolutely plagued with vulnerabilities; a copy that can't be upadate to seal the never-ending string of leaks and holes that come up monthly.

Too scary and a pain in the neck....just buy it. It really is an investment, if you value your time at all.

I do agree with your sentiments regarding the software. I should have stated that I am quite willing to purchase said software. It is for a system that has the Hangul version already loaded. Thanks for your input guys. Smile

Apparently, the shady-looking dude near Yongsan sells WinXP in English, though I am not convinced it will come with the cool, holographic logo, signifying it's authenticity. Wink Perhaps on a Imation CD, with the key scribbled on it in ballpen.... Laughing

Naw... Imation is too high-dollar of a CD.

You'd get one of those "WIN" brand CDs or BETA or some brand like that *laugh*.

I heard that Yongsan is in the market of selling English XP discs that come packaged with new computers. They are not meant for resale but they do it anyways. The problem would still be with the serial number.

Yes, a shady XP Eng disc from Yongsan does not have an approved Serial (at least the one 'my friend' bought didn't) so SP1 and SP2 don't install.

Until you go to the registry hacker website thing Dalton posted here a while ago. 2 minutes of easy-to-follow clicking and SP2 installs nicely.

What you are referring to is called a "OEM" version. It is meant to be sold ONLY with a new machine or hardware.

Software from M$ usually always come in two flavours, RETAIL and OEM. Retail has the nice box, manual etc. (And way more expensive than OEM) OEM just has the disc and serial. Thats it!

You can buy English XP home retail in Yongsan. Go into the bulding directly across the street from the outdoor market. Just ask any vendor with XP Korean. I've met two who have English for around 200,000. Last week in fact.

If you really must have the 10,000 won copy then go to:

File Depository

and dl the file : XPProCorp-keyChanger.exe

As you install your XP cheapo version don't register it when asked. When you're all done just click on the icon to open the file and follow the instructions. Within 10-20 seconds you will have an xp os that you can update with MS at their the windows update site. SP1, SP2, no problemo.
