So I finally got myself a copy of XP in English... Now what?

I know how to install it. But I've got a couple of questions...

1. It's a borrowed copy. How does this affect updates and the like?

2. Do I need to format the hard drive to re-install it, or can I just put the English version over the Korean one?

3. Will I lose any data? Is it a good idea to get everything on my hard drive backed up before jumping in?

Thanks.

1: get sp 2 ( once you figure out how to get that and the cd crack your copy will now be kinda legal so all updates will be fine!
you can update now anyway just not all of them so get SP2..

2: you have to reinstall so move everything over to your other drive..

3: ummm no this can only happen if you are installing onto another drive with no OS on it.. then you can keep the data.. but this way you will lose everything.. so back up..

get a copy of partition magic and partition your drive. Put all your data onto one partition and reformat the partition with the o/s on it and you will be fine.

Telling him to making a partition instead of making his computer secure through enabling Windows updates and a bit of common sense is just plain ludicrous and bad advice.

No it is not, you make the partition install the new o/s and get the updates. I was suggesting it as a way of not having to back up data to CD or DVD.

Sorry about that, for some reason, I thought that you were saying to forget about slip-streaming the service packs onto the installation set and instead just partition the drive and put any sensitive data on the other partition. You can see why I thought that was a bad idea!

DOY! Embarassed
