Every night on my way home from work I transfer buses at this busy junction near CO-EX.
Every night this luxury taxi is parked right across the center of this junction. Every night!! I've been there waiting for my bus for up to 10 minutes and he never moves.....
It might look in these pics like he's driving but believe me, he is stationary with his lights off
I really can't imagine what's going through his head..."mmmmm...here's a good spot!". |

Morons. Absolute morons.
If I was driving past him I'd stop and get out. Which is what I often do since I've gone crazy here. Stop the car. Get out. Tell them what they are doing in colourful language. Make sure they move. Resume driving. |

I see so many idiots everyday that if you did that, a 10 kilometre trip would take 6 hours. |

Peemil,
it may seem strange to us, but this kind of taxi parking is all too common in korea.
i see it all the time, day or night.
notice how he is parked right at thr T-intersection. it looks like no one can turn into or out of that side street right?
actually he left just enough room for access.
his rationale is that he will be first to pick up a fare, even if someone is walking up from that side street.
screw the traffic.
it's good enough for him and the 20,000,000 other lunatics that drive the streets here.
if you stopped to correct him, no doubt he'd be telling stories about the crazy foreigner who doesn't understand how to drive in korea.
resistance is futile. |

But why? Why? Why pray tell me...why the cops don't give a damm? Korean cops are idiots it seems...not only with regard to traffic laws...but the laws they break themselves.
This country could rake in a FORTUNE by towing the cars like other countries do! Don't blow no whistle warning the drivers to move their car...just tow it!
People complain...we are a small country....no space...etc.
my response is...who told you to get a car and drive? If you want to drive...be responsible enough to have a parking space...obey traffice laws...don't have selective memory when driving either and forget the rules of the road.
Just my rant.
So many senseless car accidents and folks getting hurt and killed because of idiot korean drivers. Yeah yeah...bad drivers all over the world. But in Canada, Australia, Europe, and elsewhere...cops would be towing these parked cars and impounding cars for driving crazy! |

Not sure Zyzyfer. I'm not too observant.
I think the Luxury Taxi gang have just hijacked this intersection and called it their own so their own parking rules apply.
Yes, cars can pass either side but many turn in fast and wide and almost hit this numb-nut. He gets honked at all the time so it's not like most Koreans think this is okay. |

i've come to realize that cars *honking* horns in korea simply mean "watch out, don't move, i'm coming".
it seems horn and brake usage are very confusing for koreans. |

Way to live up to your name...
The cops don't care because guess who he's waiting for. Down that road I'd assume there are lots of room salons and business clubs. And it probably isn't a very busy road (I think i know the street you're talking about)
He's just waiting for the salarymen or the gangsters who need a quick lift.
The cops aren't going to do anything about it. |

There's another three taxis parked just behind him. It looks to me like a taxi rank.
If the taxi rank is full, then they'd have to wait in the next best place. He's sitting in the car and can move it as soon as need be, but he's not actually blocking the junction.
As soon as someone gets in his taxi, he'll pull away and the taxi behind will pull up to make space for another taxi behind. It's not the same guy all the time!
The car's not been left there, he's just waiting for someone! |

That's what he's thinking I'm sure.
But, c'mon. Would any driver in the west think parking in this place is fine?
You would never dream of parking here in the west. Never!
It's a Korean/Asian thing going on here. Rules of driving can be adapted as seen fit by the driver.
As I said, he gets honked at all the time because drivers are coming in fast and almost hitting him. |

Like I said, the taxi rank is full and that's the next best place.
A lot of this country's traffic problems is caused by bad road planning.
Here in Changwon I often get stuck waiting behind cars at a red light, even though I just want to turn. It's annoying that the turn lane is often only a few yards long and can be blocked by just a couple of cars waiting to go straight. Why is the turn lane so short? Because the city insists on putting flower beds and bushes not only along the side of the roads, but also in the middle of them! I've seen workmen dig up the flowers and extend the turn lanes in a few places, which is great.
In other parts of the city, traffic is chaotic and slow-moving because of a lack of car parking spaces and no sidewalks, so cars park on the roadsides and pedestrians have to walk in the middle of the streets!
Do these people get done for jaywalking? Of course not!
Changwon is a planned city, by the way.
I drive here and I've noticed the police out a lot more lately, going after drunk drivers, speeders and red-light runners, while the city hall makes a tidy little income from ticketing parking violators.
What I'm saying is a lot of the problems lie not with the drivers, but with the roads. Either way, I see things being done to change them, which is great. |
