Well I have a question about those 6 month "visas" Canadians get on arrival. When I read about visas and requirements I come across an issue. These landing 6 month stamps don't follow the rules.

A 6 month Canadian tourist "visa" doesn't require an alien card after 90 days. Everything I have read...including the back of the arrival/departure form says anyone staying over 90 days...(straight from immigration (multiple confirmations) that a 6 month Canadian doesn't need one...)
*sigh*

Anyway, my question is about what happens if you leave at 5 1/2 months for a vacation. Can you get a "new" six month stamp on reentry or do you have a problem with the fact that you are still on your original "visa" and you should have got some sort of "re-entry" stamp? Do you need to let your current expire before you can get a new one?

Also...(for me...) how do I go about adding multiple entry to my E2 visa? What would happen if you left without a multiple entry would it void your E2?

(I'm sure this one is covered in the FAQ though...why don't they just include multiple entry in the stupid E2 anyway...it would encourage travel...ie SPEND more money...guess they want you to spend ALL of it in Korea.)

Thanks...

if you want a multiple entry permit, you can do one of two things:

- go to the immigration office, fill out a form and shell out 50,000 won, and they'll give you the stamp. I was told it takes around 20 minutes, when I called today.

- go to the immigration office at the airport just before your flight. You can only get a single re entry permit here and it costs 30,000 won, but sometimes it's a little crazy there.

I'll post a link with more details and stuff later.

That solves my problem with the E2...how about getting another 6 month "non-visa" visa...any thoughts? (I'll try immigration but I was hoping to get a feel for the answer before talking to them...talking to immigration is like a visit to the dentist after living in Willy Wonkas Chocolate factory for a lifetime.)

I'm pretty sure the tourist visa thing would work, but you couldnt' get another E-2 until the first is cancelled, and if you got busted, you'd never explain your way out.

The tourist visa issue is simple. Leaving the country automatically nullifies it. It doesnt matter how much of it you've used up. Then whenever you return you get a fresh 6 months (for Canadians). No forms, no permits, easy.

But a person might be questioned as to motive for returning, especially if done repeatedly.

Like I said I will check (before anyone says "Immigration is the only one that can tell you...")...but are you pretty sure about this? Or saying it because it makes sense to you?

I concur with Schwa. I've done that routine a lot.

Thanks a bunch...I just don't want her to get hooked up when she comes back with ...you only have 15 days left on your visa...or...you can't fly to Korea because you don't have a visa..or a hundred other bureaucratic scenarios I can think of... Smile

I'm coming from firsthand info. My daughter did exactly your scenario above -- flew out to Australia for a holiday after 5 & a half months here & strolled back in with a new 6 months 3 weeks later.

They are suspicious of illegal teaching though. I'd advise this person to have a plausible story ready for immigration at the airport.
