i was at home over xmas last year. I had this incident which I couldnt help kind of irritating me. When someone said 'didnt i fancy climbing the ladder in england' and quoted some people who supposedly had 'good jobs'.
ok so i dont want to do esl forever no way but im in my second year and my job is enjoyable, i get paid more than i know what to do with, live a wicked lifestyle on my salary and still send home a descent amount and am paying off debts.
the job quoted as being a good job, im sure the speaker had no idea of its prospects even if it had any but it involved working for a magazine in London. now whereas that may sound nice im absolutely certain that on the salary that person earn there offers absolutely no expendable money and a low quality london lifestyle. i have friends who earn 25,000 a year there and after rent and expensive travel costs to work are left with no more than my salary then i live in seoul live a better lifestyle rather than as my friend would describe 'a monks lifestyle' and still save a plenty. the speaker did actually just kind of gave me a funny look when i said i would definitely save more money here.
i dont want to sound arrogant or anything. i dont think teaching esl is all that but i do think to a degree for someone like myself who eventually wants to be a counsellor it can be very positive in many ways and getting a job in england while being a likely eventuality at this stage doesnt seem anything idealistic or clever particularly |

I used to think a good job just meant lots of money.
Then I thought, that's stupid.
I would say now that a good job is one that makes me feel happy to be there, like I am making a difference in the world somehow. I feel rewarded and satisfied doing it, and pay is secondary. |

In Korea a good job will depend on your boss.
If he has the first clue about teaching then you're halfway there.
Many hagwon bosses were shoe salesmen last year. |

| I'd say it's one that gave you enough money to have a good lifestyle and still save, is challenging, has good prospects and doesn't make you wear a nametag. |

| A good job is having single co-workers that are hot for you and look like SwissJames' Avatar. |

1. A good schedule with plenty of free time
2. $$$$$ cmon. We all need money to live. The more we have the better we can live.
3. Challenging. Nothing worse than a boring job.
4. Good prospects for advancement. Something that will potentially be long term instead of just one year.
5. Good location and apartment. |

do you have this in korea mate. not meaning to sound cheeky. id say this is a downside of working here now. unless i can get a good improvement for another year.
with regards the boss knowing nothing about teaching mine actually doesnt but is actually really good to us all so its no prob really
so can any of you tell me more about your current situation, setup etc and why or why not its a good or bad job. many people mention prospects but korea seems to somewhat lack that. i guess getting a good setup is more of the thing. so i guess this could be a good job in the longterm for me anyway if i could save for a house

I certainly hope I do. Going by what happened at all my prior haggies, they all anted me to stay. Except for my last one which was tanking big time. Now that I work for the public school system, I dont have to worry about the financial part of this. So, im putting in way more effort than I did at the haggies, hoping to score further contracts. |

Being paid to do something you love. Turning on your computer every morning and going "I can't believe I get paid to do this"
Barring that a good job would pay well, have sane coworkers, present you with challenges and problems to solve, have flex time, have no dress code, free coffee, and a reasonably clear career path. |

jajdude: I totally agree!
Ask yourself this question: If all of the jobs in the world paid exactly the same, would you choose the one you've got?
If the answer is "YES" then you have a good job! |
