Trust me when I say that most of the improved image quality of your camera is due to the newer lens. Having more megapixels helps, but your lens is why you notice a lot of improvement.

Here's a site that might help you do some comparisons of pics taken in the same situations with many different cameras:

Is this all you have? Calling people names? Derrek, it's no wonder you are the king of lonely hearts....get a personality man...a mature one, preferably. Gollum doesn't count.

I put no words in your mouth. Re-read the posts, dude....re-read your last post...you said the same thing.

Again, by your own words, if you put the S70 lens on the S30, you would get the same image. You said this. I say not. Closed. We will remain at odds.

http://www.dpreview.com (I like this one more than Steve's...lots of pictures)
http://www.dcresource.com
http://www.megapixel.net

I read these sites as well, pro.

I have nothing to redeem myself for....I stand behind every word in my posts. I didn't backtrack or "but" myself at all.

Try taking your own advice and reading the site you mentioned. It will help you undestand what both I am saying, and what you wish you were saying.

The site will also help you take better pictures...even in low-light. Razz

Go back into my post and find those exact words you say I said, and then feel free to put them in bold. You won't be able to, because I never said that, Dumbophobe.

What I did say is that it's the lens that makes much of the difference.

I will say that at a 5x7 or below (and perhaps even an 8x10 or below) if you put the same new lens on both cameras, you're not going to notice a whole lot of difference in a printed photo.

It's the lens, not the megapixels you're noticing. The S70 has a very nice lens. Much, much better than the S30 for a variety of reasons, including sharpness and clarity.

Now....try to stay with me here Derrek....going to stretch you a bit...

By these words, one could infer this; if I were to put the S70 lens on the S30 camera, the images produced by said S30 would be no better in quality than those from the S70.

I don't think this is true. End of story.

Once again, we lock horns over nothing. Thanks for the "education". I learn more about you every time you post.

You can tell when this happens because it is usually accompanied by feelings of queasiness, like when you dissected your first frog in high school.

if you're shooting in RAW mode on the highest size then yeah, I'm sure the images look a lot better.

I guess when I first started to hijack this thread I was thinking about people who use the megapixel as the only benchmark and would buy the S70 instead of the S60 because it had more megapixels and was thus 'better', even though they'd never use the maximum picture size.

I have always shot on RAW, and there is only one size for this format. Unlike shooting on JPEG, the RAW mode won't let you choose resolutions. It is a losless format, and changing to a smaller resolution would be compression, thus loss.

I won't comment on the difference between the S60 and S70, as I haven't a clue, and the fact that I own both the S30 and S70 lets me comment on this comparatively. I am not say that more is always better, I am saying that 7.1 may well be overkill, but it looks better than a 3.1 megapixel unit.

Honestly, I can see the difference, and not to discount Derrek totally (on his facts only), the lens is better. However, the jump from 3.1 to 7.1 is also, and I believe more decidedly, attributable to the quality increase.

The S30 shoots in RAW format too, as you may know.

Just curious... at what size are you printing these pictures for comparison?

Back to the OP -

I have been desperately shopping for the 'it' phone in convergence~sense. Best one I have found is a Samsung put out by cyberbank (I have seen that 5.o cam phone, and it seems nice, but not all the features I wanted).

http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/333/C2787/

Cyberbank originally planned on releasing their PDA/WIP/camcorder/MP3 phone in Korean, then English, but they pulled the extra language support options, and have NO plans to release it here. After I had been on a waiting list, as well.

I tracked down a site that explains how to re-do the phone with a different OS (for both Chinese & English), but it seemed more trouble than it was worth - CB won't do it for you, Samsung Anycall won't, Samsung US, etc. And I am NOT risking that kind of money on a potential fancy paperweight.

Regards,

G.

(I looked at others, and settled on the Anycall Swing 4400 model)

As I said, I have always shot on RAW, since my S30 days. My school has an HP designjet printer (1055plus), and they generously allowed me to print it not relative to paper size, but 66% actual pixels, on both cameras at 600 dpi. These have become great Christmas gifts....massive prints....posters, actually.
