It's Christmas morning. The little girl has opened all the gifts that Santa brought, and I'm wondering when is too early to start drinking Jack Daniels. But all is not right at Chez Sparkles. The gifts my mother sent -- mostly for the girl -- have been lost. That's right, lost.

On Monday, my mother sent the gifts via Canada Post's most expensive shipping method (total cost of shipping: $188). If I had known she was going to send it Canada Post I probably would have told her to save herself some time and toss the gifts in a resevoir, but alas. Anyway, she was told the package would definitely arrive before Christmas. Yeah, right.

Turns out the package was never picked up from the post office by Purolator. What's worse is that my mother, to hopefully ensure that I wouldn't be hit with extra costs when the shipment arrived, insured it for only $100. The real cost? About $700.

So, with little or no chance of us ever finding the package, here's a big FU to the incompetent, probably thieving, people who work for Canada's postal system. I hope someone poisons your eggnog.

My Grandma spent months putting together a Christmas package for me this year. She talked on and on about it every time I phoned her. She sent it to me via Canada Post on November 1. Here it is now Dec. 25 and still no package. I have recieved other letters and packages from people who sent them well after she did. Its safe to say her gift has been lost as well. I join you in giving CP the big F.U. Evil or Very Mad

interesting.... my mother also sent a package from Florida (not Canada post obviously) and was assured it would get here in 4-7 business days, and that was 2 weeks ago -- not here yet. Canada post did come through for me on a different package from my aunt though....

My mother always sends my packages the fastest way through Canada Post...it usually costs her over $150. But the post office where she mails them....always tells her the fastest they can get here is 8 business days....sometimes I get them in 5...but most times it is 8. If I'm not mistaken things always move a little slower at Christmas....I wonder if the postal worker "thought" it would make it because sometimes it makes it in 5 days. Don't give up hope yet....it might still make it....then you can tell your daughter she got to have an extended christmas.

Most times then not...the "fault" lies with the RECEIVING country....mail a package from another country and once it gets to its destination...it has to clear customs. Simple enough. It could be sitting in a customs wearhouse pending release by the inspectors.
I always always have packages sent to me via UPS or FedEx. You get a tracking number and will always know where it is. And they are not not that expensive...a two pound package could cost $100.00.

I had some goodies sent over from Australia...

The bastards in Korea opened two bags of chips to check the contents...

They were opened then rolled back up when they arrived...

Here's a big FU to Korea Post.

This is not the first or the last time this has happened.

I got a box from LA via US postal service airmail/priority in 8 days. 10 pounds 50 bucks.

I wasnt home when Korea Post tried to deliver it so I phoned & asked them to bring it to my school. Naw, too heavy for you to lug home, he tells me, how about he drops it off at the key store by my house? Cool, okay. They dont know me from Adam but happily signed for it & held it for me.

Post office guy on a scooter pulls up to me on the sidewalk the next day & asks did you get your box ok? Yeh great. Thumbs up & a cheery 'merry christmas.'

Havent had a letter or parcel lost or delayed in 5 years here. I'd say the system generally works very well.

I have had parcels or packages delayed several times. Two years ago, I had to write a letter to Korean customs and explain why I needed the package from my family. The package contained cards, letters, cookies, and a shirt. I sent the letter via fax. The package eventually arrived wrapped in Korean "inspected" tape. The tape was holding the mutilated box together.

all you who think you have lost your packages - DON"T GIVE UP HOPE! i had the same thing happen to me two years ago, and about a week after new years i had figured my packages had been lost, stolen, or heisted by some scrooge-like postal worker. but alas, i received them sometime in early spring when i was thinking about breaking out the shorts. some two to three months late - but i still got them. however, i wasn't using Canadian Post; they seem to mess stuff more than Busheeeeeeeeeeeeee.

If the package was actually picked up in Canada I would still have hope of receiving it. The situation is, though, that it was never picked up from the post office and cannot be tracked. Somebody done stole it.

So my mother is going to receive a hundred bucks for over seven hundred worth of gifts. I sincerely hope the thief enjoys his children books, baby clothes and stuffed animals.

My first Christmas here my mom sent me two packages. She sent the first one at least 3 weeks before sending the second. The second one arrived sooner. The first package took about 2 months to get here.

Wow, alot of stories related to this topic. I am really surprised though. My parents sent us a package this year from Canada. It arrived here a week ago, left Canada sometime after the first week of November. Presents, jello, maple syrup and home made honey all arrived in perfect shape. Thing is, my mom left off the city on the address.

All in all, it's been a good year for us, I'd have to say. Sorry that your package didn't make it Sparkles (and everyone else too). May the thief ingest a child's toy and require surgery.

Merry Christmas all!!!

Funny I got a couple of boxes from home (My mom sent them staggered style so I wouldn't have to lug them all home on one day) When do they get to the school all on the same day, via three different deliveries..it was damn funny watching the reaction of my co-workers as the boxes rolled in. And my mom being my mom included shit for them too so they were all happy.

I also just found out that my packages home made it. I am damn happy.
