Hey so I just got an mp3 (RCA RD1072) player and am looking to get a memory card for it. It says it is compatible with Multimedia cards and SD cards and that's it. I was wondering if there is anything I should know before going out and purchasing one. Things like brand names, compatibility issues, recomendations of where to buy, or anything else you feel might be helpful would be cool.

in my opinion: buy the cheapest brand you can find.

There are differences between MMC and SD cards, mainly relating to speed (MMC are a bit slower). This can be an issue with digicams. Unlikely to matter with MP3 players.

I've been using brand and non-brand memory cards for over three years, and have never noticed a difference in quality, nor have I heard of any documented differences on the net, apart from the anecdotal ("I used that brand once and it died, they all suck...")

Buy online. Look them up at www.omi.co.kr.

Otherwise, head to Sunin Plaza in Yongsan, having already educated yourself about the going rate of the size/brand you want from Omi.

No one else has replied so I guess I'll step in with my 2 cents. (EDIT: Damn you Lemon, damn you!)

I'd go with SD, but that's me. I believe (but am not 100% certain) they are more popular, thus more of a 'standard' and consequently will be cheaper, you'll be able to use it in more devices, etc. Of course, if you already usee MM cards in (for example) your digital camera, then get one of those.

No, not that I'm aware of.

Just check and see what the max size your mp3 is capable of taking- if you go out and buy a 1GB card but your player can handle up to 256MB then you're wasting your money.

Also remember that you won't get the full amount to use for storage- this is due to a small part being reserved by the player as well as the fact that there is some industry-wide discrepancy when it comes to calculating/advertising storage space.

In other words, if your 256MB card only registers 248MB of space available for songs, it's not because it's defective.

I imagine the usual places- Technomart, Yongsan E-mart, or whatever local electronics market area is closest to you would be safe bets.

I'm sure there's somebody reading this who could find you a great price be ordering online on a Korean site.

I bought a samsung 256mb SD card online for 60,000.

Some brands I'd never heard of had 256mb cards for 45,000!!!
