If myself (UK) and my wife (Korean) have a baby here in Korea, what nationality would it be?

Both

YOu go to your embassy and register the baby's birth - there is some beaurocratic BS to deal with but do it. You wife registers baby at the dong office everything is groovy. sometime before the kd turns 18 they must choose one nationality as Korea does not allow dual citizenship beyone 18 years of age.

Congrats...

The info you have been given is correct, but also understand that should you choose Korean nationality for you child if it is a son, then he will be required to perform compulsory national service. Though that is a long way down the track. Smile

Not true, if he gives up his Korean nationality before the age of 18 , and removes himself from the family registry.

Both,

Until it turns 18. Then he or she will have to choose a nationality unless Korea recognizes dual citizenship with the UK.

Congrats on the baby as well!

Our baby will be born in March!

I was told that girls don't have to choose at 18.

But thanks anyway.

So, if I get this straight, we can have a baby here, and as long as we register it with both the embassy and her dong office, then the baby will have a dual nationality until the age of 18? And then they have to chose what they want to be as long we tell the embassy and the dong office and it takes itself off the family register, if it decides to be British?
