| Has anyone else considered - even for a moment - going somewhere down there to help out? I am thinking about it...Would it be worth it? |

kinda of dangerous,, with the spread of disease and all..
which country you planning on going too?
MAN I saw pics of PUKET PATONG.. I have been there.. and it was your typical dirty poor kinda town. but man it has been wasted..
man all those little stores, bars, etc.. JUST GONE! it will take 1 year before that island can bring the tourists back I guess to what it was..
man I bet so many cancelations this week.. I wonder if the hotels or airlines will be dropping there prices? I doubt anyone will be going for the few months anyway but I mean like lets say this summer?
I wonder if they rebuild it better than it was? or will it be worse? due to money? whats gonna happen to tourism you think guys?
of course thailand will be ok! so many other great places to go..
but puket! will it recover? if so how long?
and what about the other nations..?
man its gonna take some serious machinary to remove all the rubble and debris all over the countries that have been effected..
so many nations helping out.. red cross etc..
referring to the other tread about korea being one of the richest countries and how much have they donated in the world..
well they have donated 100million WON! not DOLLARS!!
WON!!
pretty pathetic really... still better than nothing.. |

100,000 bucks....??
That's disgusting, isn't it...??
One of the richest countries in the world.
If that's all it ends up being they should be ashamed of themselves. |

They need money, not manpower, (unless you're a doctor or a public health specialist etc.) Donate the money you'd spend getting down there to the Red Cross. When it's been rebuilt, spend your next holiday there and inject some cash into their local economy. |

You'd sure need to be current on your vaccinations for a small pile of diseases/sicknesses.
Donating money offers aid agencies the most flexibility. |

I was told that even though I was there already, because I wasn't trained, I'd only be in the way and would possibly add to the problem if I caught one of the diseases, cause I 'd be more susceptible to stuff like malaria than local people.
Right now, they need money, and they'll continue to need it for some time, long after the media moves on to something new. I'm going to see if I can sponsor a kid or two in the area. |

| I'm pretty new over here - anyone know of a charity that would take Korean Won to help out the victims? Apparently Oxfam doesn't, unfortunately. |
