I know I am Australian but I find the best drinking companians are Australians.
the worst(but not all..there are some gems) canadians. It all turns political halfway near drunk. The last thing I like talking about on my down time is North American politics. |

This is tough. I'd like to say Irish up front, but they always veer off into rugby and other sports crap that I'm not really interested in talking about.
Drinking with Canadians...do it a lot, and yea, it tends to turn political or snarky in some way. Or the aforementioned sports stuff.
Americans...boring. And I am one. We just don't have any exciting stories most of the time. Or perhaps they're not exciting to me because I've met enough non-Americans or something.
Aussies/Kiwis...pretty good times. Somewhere in between the others, as they like sports and politics and crap, and can be loud. Few more agressive types as well.
British tend to be too whiny for my tastes.
Generalizations are fun! I guess I just like to drink with insane people. |

My fellow Scots, of course, and the other half of the 'Celtic' connection, the Irish.
Here in the U.S., Americans can be overly concerned with the whole drunk driving thing to really get overly-excited.
Australians and Canadians are quality characters.
South African and English ladies are absolutely fantastic for swallies (especially the former).
Only really negative characters were ALL from New Zealand (both chaps and chapettes)... |

I.A.W.,
Let us dispense with stereotypes.

In what way?...give us some details about where they went wrong...i think this is a kind of weird question anyways...theres dicks that want to drink with you....then theres cool people that you choose to drink with...if someone wants to get a little rowdy or whatever then sweet as...so long as they don't be too much of an egg...plus being good at pool is a biggie in my opinion. |

To rawiri,
I think I may have run into you in "Geckos" one fair evening (during the rugby World Cup)...
My dear Bunny,
The lumping of the two stems from the fact that I rarely came across either two nationalities during my exile in the ROK. (one Welsh guy, and two fair English ladies...Miss Lorraine, are you still there?!!)... |

The few Australians I have had a good drink with were great drinking companions, so I'd vote for them.
But you forgot to include the Republic of Newfoundland in your poll, which might have influenced my choice.... |

Rawiri,
Hmm,...let me see if my swally-addled cells can concoct a remembrance...under 6' tall, black hair, etc,...? No breakages, groping, or otherwise, but you did have a 'crew' with you...
Jaj., Newfies have always struck me as very weathered and quality individuals...
As for the Nova Scotia-ites, my hat was off to the lass who thought she could flummox me with the old chestnut..."See if you can guess where I'm from, it means New Scotland...!!"...CLASSIC...poor wee lass... |

Me.
I just like someone who can take my sick sense of humor. My group of drinkers range from all groups. They just have to know how to put up with me. |

Hard choice to make here.
Most of my drinking buddies I'd call up were Canadian, just on account of knowing them from before or meeting them through friends.
Of the Canucks I'd meet on the street, the political thing is definitely true but would go two ways. The "fresh out of university/change the world/socio-ethical compulsion to argue with everything type" tend to get tiresome, but there are quite a few who are very easygoing and talking politics with them helps open up a lot of perspectives on where each of us really fits in to things.
I'll be the first to agree that Canadians are searching for an identity but I've shared a beer with some fine hippy pagans from the left coast, loyalist stock from Niagara on the Lake, first generation'ers from Toronto... a lot of really interesting backgrounds and it helps me remember how much diversity we all can take a share from.
I like sharing a beer with Americans too. Regardless of any world affairs mumbo jumbo, I tend to find Americans to be some of the most honestly good-hearted folks I've run into. Even the GI's are like this a lot of the time, although they tend to be a bit more physical-- knocking things over, slamming things down (and not necessarily on purpose). Deep down, you can still tell that they're honest folks, trying their best to do a tough job, and I feel honoured to have a beer with them.
I like drinking with the Irish because I've never met a group of people so inherently gifted with language, music, and ability to exude comradery... and I REALLY like to sing when I'm drunk.
Beyond that, New Zealand women have made a positive impression on me too. They seem to have a lot of common sense but at the same time show a quirkiness that is quite endearing.
And I like drinking with Australians because they can usually keep up with me. |
