50,000 won?? what kind of drinks where they? I could drink all I wanted 5 days a week at my usual pub for that much. yes it's not the hyatt, but come on this is seoul, alcohol is cheap outside foreigner traps like itaewon.

I went to Hyatt one time on a normal night a few months ago because one of my Korean co-workers wanted to take me there. This is how ridiculous that place is:

1) One mixed drink (15,000-20,000won)
2) Small plate of bananas, apples, grapes (60,000won)
3) Service tax (20%)
4) Alchohol tax (another 20%)

This place is a joke and should be shut down. Terrible dancing as well. I was really angry at my co-worker for bringing me there (but she's a richie so it didn't faze her) Evil or Very Mad

***I can imagine the Hyatt on New Year's has got to be ten times worse!!

Well I had fun, the bar was easy to get to (where were you queuing for the bar? In that main room with the DJs, with like a dozen bar staff, or at the baileys concession stand, as that queue looked mammoth), they had to restock a few times but there was free vodka even when the soft drinks had run out, the music was alright, bit loungey for my tastes but the Koreans liked it. The reaction to the PARTY PHONE was awesome........ I'll post some pics later but I'm on my way out now, but suffice it to say I had a much better time than the OP

That's JJ Mahoney's, isn't it? Place is a ripoff. On the plus side, many of the local girls dress like hookers.

Call me unreasonable, but that right there would drive me 'round the blankety-blank-blank bend. A SOLID HOUR?? I'm assuming you aren't exaggerating, IG, or if so, not by much. I've seen, and in some mercifully rare cases been in, situations like that. Ugh!! Mad

The OP and Bunnymonster --- were they at the same party? Confused

Personally, I'm familiar enough with the Grand Hyatt to know better than to spend New Year's stuffing their pockets with my cash. If I'm ever in "money-no-object" mode, I'll either be hosting the party myself or it'll be anywhere but the Hyatt.

But to each his/her own. The important thing is get out of hand with good friends, and then get back home with as few broken bones, missing teeth or bad memories as possible. That the OP wasn't able to do that at the Hyatt doesn't surprise me in the least, though.

Yep, that place is known as a hangout for high-price hookers looking for guys on business trips.

Mahoney's has been a hang-out for many upscale hookers in Seoul for a long time now.

After work, I'd walk over to the Lotte Hotel sometimes to have a beer in the pub and there were girls working there also.
