Hi folks,
Anyone here know anything about Yongin... like how they make out getting into Seoul in evenings if they've ever done it? How long it takes? Any fast food restaurants or TGI's or anything? Or any way to get there easily from bus terminals 'outside' of Seoul?
I've been thinking about making the trip from Cheonan but it only has 4 trips there a day... so possibly from Osan which has more. I'm coming from Gongju by the way. Thanks for your help in advance, if anyone has anything to offer. |

| I don't know much about Yongin itself, but there's a bus that leaves from Cheonan every 20 minutes that goes to Aju University, and there's got to be a ton of busses going to Yongin from there. If you live in Cheonan, that's the best way I can think of to get out there. |

| Yeah thanks.... perhaps there is at that same drop point. I know exactly the Ajou bus and the stop you are talking about as I've been taking that one to Ajou almost weekly. |

| My brother actually is moving there tomorrow. Probably not the best to move to. I'm in Gongju, and I can't say it's the best place either, but I wanted the job. Just was hoping my brother would get closer to Seoul from Suwon... not further away. |

Yongin is only 45 minutes away from Seoul taking the 5001 bus and ending at Gangnam station.
It's a smallish town, but has everything you need for daily living, supermarkets, restaurants galore, video stores, etc.
To Suwon is about 30 minutes on the 6000? bus; the buses seem to run all the time until about 11:00 at night.
Not a bad place as places in Korea go and quite a bit better than Seoul in air quality.
Curious about which school???? I know of a couple of serious duds.

| What part of Yongin are you talking about? It's a huge area comprising several different communities separated by large undeveloped areas. (Yongin City, Suji, Singal, whatever that area over near Hanguk University of Foreign Studies is) each of these would result in different answers to your bus/restaurant questions and they're all within Yongin. |

| The express bus terminal in Yongin City I believe... apparently his apartment is about 5 minutes away from the terminal. The disappointing news I've heard so far is that there are only 4 buses a day going there from Cheonan with the only one that is relatively appealing being the 7 pm bus. I don't know if there are more frequent ones now. So I'm also considering taking the bus from Gongju to Osan and from there going to the Yongin terminal, which according to the website makes 26 trips a day. Any thoughts or better ways to get there? |

Everland and Carribean Bay is there.
Other than that it looked like a pretty deadplace.
TGI Fridays, ha ha ha, no way. |

| When I lived in Singal in Yongin they were building a new building near my apartment that was to have a TGIs in it. I wouldn't be surprised if there's one in Suji but I don't know. |

How long does it take to go from Gongju to Osan? Just curious for unrelated reasons - (actually saw a potential job in Gongju).. |

Gongju to Osan... depending on traffic, ofcourse, takes 1 hour and 10 minutes with no traffic.
Gongju to Suwon (through Osan) takes 1 hour and 30 minutes with no traffic.
Gongju to Cheonan takes 50 minutes.
Gongju to Seoul takes 1 hour and 45 minutes, with no traffic.
hope this helps those of you wanting to make the trip. |

those buildings you see being built have that computer graphic design of a simulated complete building with TGI's etc.. is all BOGUS.. they just show what it could be.. but they never get completed that way..
but TGI's is moving to SUJI next to the E-mart they say.. but they have 2 in Bundang anyway.. and a new Emart is opening at the intersection of

It's been correctly pointed out that Yongin is pretty sprawling, but if your bro is near the express terminal, then I know what neighbourhood you're talking about.
It's not exactly the most happening town. There aren't really any huge chain stores, though it's a short walk to a decent LG-mart. Camp Yongin furnishes the places with GIs a-plenty, and if you want to find some, check out a place called Bar Ugli.
It's got one movie theatre, and a bustling traditional market, so if your brother is in need of dog meat, Yongin is the place to be. It takes a while to discover the little nooks and crannies that make the place interesting (or bearable).
If your brother needs any introductions to the expat crowd, give me a shout. I know a few people in Yongin who are, as the Aussies say, "good value". |
