I was looking at getting a console here in Korea.
Are they more expensive than back home? (Canada) Everything else seems to be. ('cept maybe desktop parts)
What is the "best" one to get? PS2? X-box? Game-cube?
(I've had the PS2 & Game-cube in Canada. The only reason for the game cube was the Mario franchise)
And does anyone know if the new PS2 design can be modded? *yet* |

Well I will just add my 2 cents until some experts come in. I got my XBOX here from EMart (prolly a bad move) for like W260,000. In the States I could get a memory card instead of a game in the bundle for $200USD, maybe a better deal than that somewhere if I looked.
I got my XBOX modded (which is legal, just breaks the agreement with Microsoft). It opens up fun stuff if you mod it.
But I bought my XBOX mostly for Halo 2 and because I am familiar with networking it (it's fun cuz it has a HDD). I don't think you could go wrong with either the XBOX or PS2 but this debate has happened millions of times. Popular opinion is PS2 games are better but you might know this already.
I am enjoying Halo 2, Fight Night 2004, the new Star Wars RPG and FIFA Soccer 2005 on my XBOX now. I assume FIFA and Fight Night are on the PS2 also, not sure about the Star Wars RPG and not Halo 2. I think the XBOX graphics are better... haha how many times has that opinion been tossed out there... followed by GRAPHICS DONT MAKE THE GAME OMG.
But then again I got my PS2 in the first place for Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy.
I had a PS2 back in the US but it stopped reading discs and started making some funny disc reading noises. I think I may have been able to fix it myself but I sent it in to Sony and they wanted over $100USD for it when I could wait a couple weeks and get a new one for $150. |

Depending on the game...not likely...
(But yes, some of my favorite games are on PC...and while they are ported to consoles the game-play isn't the same...) |

Demophobe- ROTFL!!! You're right, of course, but PS2/XBOX have many games (GTA:SA comes to mind) that leave's the PC only player SOL. Personally, I'd go PS2 because its easier to get Bootlegs and other not-legal things here in ROK. |

I was afraid that was the purpose of the update...tighten the modding...
I thought there was an external mod of some sort with the original PS2 so you didn't have to crack the unit and could still play on-line....
I assume given time the new PS2 will be cracked as well... |

You can play GTA on the PC, it just takes longer to come out. And it's got cool features such as replaying and making videos of your games (sooo many times I've done something unbelievable and wished I could see it again).
And for anything like a shooter, PC is the way to go. You can't beat a mouse and keyboard for control. But then again, if you've got buddies over and want to play some sports a console is the shizzat.
Go to Yongsan and get a modded PS2/Xbox depending on what games you want. |

"They" make a product for consoles that allows you to use a keyboard/mouse combo...
I'm talking about resolution, crispness and beauty, baby!
Unless you have a high-res, HD TV to use for the console, a pc with a nice big CRT will look much better....hands down.
Playing UT2004 at 1600x1200, 16x AF and 4xAA is gorgeous...something a console could only dream of.
It only makes sense...a console has small amounts of RAM, a "slow" CPU and mediocre (at best) VGA capabilities. Look at the Xbox specs....makes for a really crappy computer, which is essentially all it is.
How can that compete with an AMD 64, GeForce 6800 Ultra and a GB of RAM....?
Consoles are only saved by the code, and the fact that they don't need resolution....TVs don't go very high.
Consoles are convenient, that's all. There is getting to be a wealth of games out these, as devs go for the easy money to be found in console titles, but if a title comes out for the different platforms, the PC version will always rock harder. Look at Unreal Championship vs. UT2004...play them side by side and tell me which one provides a better experience.
Playing on a TV...I can't see the game for the lines....
Now, I wait for "consolers" to attack.... |

Meh, I like PC gaming a bunch too... I spent too much time of my life messing around in Counter Strike things.
But right now I like playing some sports games, the ease of setup, lack of time spent customizing/installing for the XBOX. XBOX set me back a bit, but if I had gotten the computer I wanted it woulda set me back 2x as much or more than the XBOX. |

Stop looking for the lines and start looking for the fun!
Seriously, there are games on consoles you can't get on a PC, so the graphics don't factor into it as long as the game it good. Rez, VibRibbon, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden, Knights of the Old Republic? Not on PC.

@ nate: If you like 640x480 resolution, you can play most any pc game with very low-cost hardware....just like XBOX!
@ Walter: Like I get out too much?!? |
