I just watched the news today. Apparently some crazy Korean ajeoshi splattered gasoline on one of the seoul subway trains and lit it on fire. I don't think anyone was killed or injured but the train is completely toasted and you might have delays if you are travelling today. I think it just happened today. Don't know which line it happened on.
This reminds me of the Daegu tragedy that happened a couple of years ago. A disturbed Korean ajeoshi set gasoline and a match on a subway and killed about 300 people. But the reason why I heard so many people died is because the idiotic driver locked the doors in a panic and no one could get out. It's weird that the only terrorist activity happening in Korea were committed by Koreans. Must of been some real issues with these ajeoshi's. Of course, I was nearly attacked by a ajeoshii walking last night so I'm in a real ajeoshi-hating mood. I seriously hope this guy gets some serious jail time...Me? I'm all for the death penalty on this guy since he obviously wanted to kill a bunch of people!
Oh, crap! My K. boyfriend watching the news said that the guy got away  |

My only bad Krazy Korean Man on the Subway problem was some drunk 50 year old guy kept coming up to me going "Okay?" "Okay?" Eventually he found a young couple with a couple daughters to, I imagine, berate for not filling Korea with males.
I sort of wish I knew how to say something unexpected in situations like this. Like when some Korean guy starts rambling to you in drunken Korean you can just say to him in perfect Korean "But I have a 12" schlong." |

The dumbass waste of humanity in Daegu did it because he didn't want to die alone. Also, the driver was ordered to lock the doors. It is said the people in charge told him to lock the doors because they thought "the fire was on the outside." The tapes that recorded this conversation have been conveniently misplaced. Somebody should lock both of those men in a subway car, soak it in gasoline, and light a match. Hell, I'd light it myself.

Actually, I have used this phrase a couple of times by groping ajeoshis, as well as the dirty ajeoshi who tried to grab me last night:
Ku-Mahn-Hay Babo-Kay-Say-gee ( and then I violently push them away from me)
**It translates into "Leave me alone, stupid son-of-a-bitch" with all the polite "yo's" dropped  I get angry when I tell this story to Koreans because they all say "you NEVER talk like that to an older Korean man...it's very disrespectful!" What the hell? I have to be respectful and damsel-distressed to a potential rapist
***As far as that man who got away today from the subway fire: my wish is that he'll just go ahead and kill himself, alone. You're right. Men like that are just a waste of human flesh. |

Yeah, Onsu station (line 7) was closed most of the day today...people were not allowed in the station at all...
and the police are still out in pairs at each exit at the line 7 stations from Sinpung to Onsu, as of 10pm tonite...
with the cops crawling all over the place it must be serious |

The news reports about this are almost comical. A man sets fire to a stack of newspapers during morning rush hour. No one notices until the woman sitting next to the flaming papers herself catches fire. And the woman who caught on fire didn't even notice. One eagle eyed rider had to point out to her she was now on fire.
The driver himself noticed smoke but assumed it was a fire in the station itself. It's not like fires can spread to passing subways. Right?
And then when the Korea subway workers "spring" into action to put the fire out, they don't bother to check they actually put it out. Oh no. They send the train on its merry way. The smoldering fire stokes up again and torches two more cars...
And then their description of the suspect -- 50something, black hair, high cheekbones, wearing hiking gear -- basically fits the description of 25% of men who ride the subway.
It reminds me a bit of how the escort agency had to catch that serial killer guy themselves. They called the cops, pretty sure they just got a call from the killer, but the cops didn't bother to investigate. "Our job is to stand six abreast inside a warm ATM kiosk and then all patrol our way to a Korean BBQ restaurant for lunch..."

Not noticing things is a survival trait in large crowded cities like Seoul, where the guy you're staring at may be willing to injure you. Just telling you why for. |

Yeah, I remember the Daegu cops "acting" after that nutcase set fire to the subway. They were standing around in full gear, O2 tanks and all, and doing NOTHING. Why? Because they "weren't given orders yet."
This thing in Seoul doesn't surprise me one bit. |
