Just a revamp of the original post. Contributors so far have been: Lost Seoul (with a massive amount of links), NickRandom, James H, kimcheeking, and myself. I kind of screwed up the formatting (sorry Lost Seoul) but the information is there. If I made an error, let me know.

National Tax Service, Republic of Korea -

http://www.nts.go.kr/menu/index.asp?sub=menu5&svc=5_6&sub_menu=menu1&svc_id=743
Some hagwon owners tend to charge you too high a tax rate and pocket the difference. To find out if you are paying too much go to the Korean taxservice's web site. Foreign teachers pay the same taxes as Koreans. NOTE: You may be eligible to pay other taxes as well, if you are unsure contact your embassy.

It is all in Korean so here is a guide of what to do. There are 3 boxes. The top box is how much money you make (in chung won), so 2.7 million is 2700 in the box. Same as 1.8 million=1800 The box below asks how many people are in the family. Then click the box to the right of the bottom box and it tells you exactly how much tax you should pay.

Two good exchange rate sites:

Oanda http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic Good for current rates

Pacific Exchange Rate Service http://pacific.commerce.ubc.ca/xr/plot.html Historical exchange rates - good to see if the current rate is worth panicking over.

Two more excellent Korea-related sites: Pusanweb, at http://www.pusanweb.com. More than a little Pusan-o-centric, but lots of good stuff to read for everyone in the country. I think most people already know about it, but if you're new here, look it up.

Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) - http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm Good for a sneak-preview of what will be on the banners around campus by the weekend, and what the Korea Herald's editorial position will be by next week.

Site for Seoul dwellers.
Lots and lots of info about everything from what's on to recycling center locations.
The New Seoul Map under Enjoy Seoul at the top left is an excellent street and subway map.
