I have a Laptop with a single PCMCIA slot. I see a possibility of needing two pcmcia cards...is there such a thing as a pcmcia card that then splits to two or more slots for other pcmcia cards?

| If there is such a thing, I would bet it is a USB device which you can plug pcmcia cards into. I couldn't really see them making a pcmcia card that functions as a dual card slot. |

Well, the reason I would like to get something like this is because I would like to use two PCMCIA slots. One for that slick new Soundblaster Audio PCMCIA card, and the second for a wireless connection...I don't think I can get wireless on USB can I?

Well wire = USB so no that won't work.
The fact that you have two slots means that you can run two things in tandem so I don't see aproblem for you unless the cards are bulky enough to interfere with each other. Wireless cards are usually pretty slim so it should work for you. Never tried it myself though... |

| Yes, you can get a wireless USB device. Just go to Yongsan and look around. I have seen them. |

What are you talking about, he said he only has one slot. He would LIKE to use two. |

Well I wasn't being very clear. I was thinking along the lines of Bulsajo i.e. that most do have two but it looks like one. I should have read the OP a bit more carefully though, you're right.
Thanks for showing me that USB does not necessarily mean you have something on the end of a wire. I'm learning... |

Hi there,
Sorry if I sounded impatient. I did not mean to be.
Anyway, there have been tremendous advances in USB, and it will be here to stay for a while yet. |

I'd like some clarification from Poet on the single slot- are you sure you've got just a single slot?
Most laptops that I've seen have only one door covering the PCMCIA bay, but that bay can hold 1 type III or 2 type I or type II cards.
Since 99% of pcmcia cards are type I or II this gives most laptops the ability to use 2 cards.
I suppose an ultra-slim ultra-portable laptop might have a pcmcia bay that isn't large enough to take a type III card...
What kind of laptop do you have?
Or is it that the Soundblaster pcmcia is a big thick type III card?

Definitely a single slot. This is a Dell 1000 which is the intro Dell. Inexpensive, but also not a lot of features. Single PCMCIA, No floppy drive, no S-Video, and only a video out and 3 USB slots ... but hey, its faster than my old laptop, has a bigger hard drive, and more RAM...I'm happy...I'd just like to be able to work/play on this thing away from my desk is all. Thank you for the links...perhaps that is the way to go.
