Anyone take it yet? whats the time frame? Does it stop anywhere? How much does it cost?

I took it as far as Daegu last fall- took around an hour and a half, cost 35,000 or so, and stopped maybe 4 times.

It isn't too bad. A little uncomfy but it does hit some fast bits between Daegu and Daejeon.

It stops about 8 times between the 2 cities.

It takes about 3 hours. Daegu to Seoul is only 2 but they haven't finished the Deagu-Busan part yet so it is slower.

Here is a timetable in Korean(why do they have a timetable on the Korean site but not on the English on????)

3 hours.. not bad. Eventually its going to be 1? Did I hear that right once?

Anyone been on the Mag Lev in Shanghai? Goes 430 km/hour. Get to the airport from Shanghai in 7 minutes...what usually takes over an hour by taxi. Korea needs on of those...

I dont see that happening anytime soon. They need to get the KTX built from Daegu to Busan. Currently the train runs on a regular track during that span meaning the train speed slows substantially. Once they get the last part of the tracks finished, I would put a guess on it taking around 2 hours from Seoul to Busan if the train was non-stop.

i've seen the new track being built between daegu and busan. it 'looks' almost finished as most of the heavy equipment is fading. i doubt the prices will go up, tho.

gotta love that stretch between daegu and daejon. going through the mountain tunnels shakes the shit outa that train. my eardrums as well. sometimes it goes on for a few minutes at a time.

now that i recall, it doesn't happen as severely EVERY time...but when it does, i wonder if the damn thing is about to disintegrate.

It's even worse on the Seoul-Mokpo line. The KTX track only goes as far as Daejeon, so you get to Daejeon in just under an hour. However, there's no KTX track between Daejeon and Mokpo, which is a huge distance.

I would hope not. The price of the KTX from Daegu to Seoul is more expensive than the Saeumaul train already even though it is marginally faster and the seating is much more uncomfortable. I only take the KTX to Busan from Daegu as a last resort or if I am going to Gupo.

I took the Busan-Seoul bullet train trip at 2:40 on the afternoon of New Year's eve and it was a nice, smooth zip. I liked that my seat faced backwards and that food and cold beverages were brought around. It arrived like clockwork and the airport shuttle bus was waiting outside. I don't recall the price, but it was CHEAP I recall. (Travel in Japan and then talk about transit prices!)

I still would rather have taken one of those luxury buses, which are only three seats wide and cozier than a lazy-boy. But I couldn't on that day because the first snowfall in three years shut down the island highways. It was funny to see! (And I thought Vancouverites didn't know how to drive in snowy conditions.)

It's one stop. The cost was vast and no one is sure why the Chinese built it other than bragging rights. Cool but it will be a long time before anyone makes a maglev system that anyone could use like a traditional train network.
