I am sorry to be so cold but....

If you can't read Korean, learn.

If you don't understand what was posted, ask.

No one is going to jump down your throat and demand that you never post again because you can't understand ѱ. And in the off chance that someone does, I'm sure someone else on the board will step up and help you (not to mention give the other *beep* shit).

And furthermore, there is nothing pretentious about communicating in a language you understand. If you are doing it purely to show off then that is another thing.

I enjoy seeing a bit of Korean here. It makes me feel good about my own progress when I can understand what is written. I'm sure those who don't understand now will feel the same way when they do get it.

Do you know where this is going? Soon people are gonna be called pretentious for learning Korean. There are always those who are too lazy to learn it and who get pissed off because others took an hour out of their life to learn ѱ.

Writing in Korean can be a great help to those who can't read it. Anyone who has read this entire thread should now be able to fully recognize the word ѱ. No need to romanize it (at least on this thread) any more.

Nah, they shouldnt have to recognize it. Then it gets to be like chinese with thousands of different words to recongnize. They should spend an hour learning how to put it together.

Seoul is a great example. Didn't most of us pronounce it as a single syllable until we came to Korea? If we're going to use Korean, we should use it right.

Laughing Laughing

Yeah, and so many of us pronounce it as two syllables once we do arrive. Rolling Eyes I don't think I EVER heard a foreigner say Seoul in the Korean way.

Not saying they don't exist (hey, what's up mith and DW Wink ) but they are a rare breed unfortunately.

I say when speaking with Koreans and Seoul when speaking with English speakers.

They don't need fellow foreigners to discourage them -- Koreans tend to do a pretty efficient job of it.

some people have no spine and are very easily discouraged. If you can't speak korean blame yourself, don't blame koreans

Actually, I can speak Korean. I just don't lord it over others that I can.

Jeez. If I blamed myself for everything I didn't know I would have no self esteem.

You've never seen the inferiority complex some Koreans assume when they realize your Korean is lightyears better than their English. Really?

You've never been answered to in English (or ignored outright) after asking a question in Korean? Just how long have you lived here?

BTW, it was a bit of cynical humor; I would encourage anyone living in Korea to learn Korean, even if it's just so they can find Pantene Pro-V in the supermarket...or Daum search for nude pics of Ha Ji-Won.
