I think as some people found with the SP2 update, Microsoft is getting smarter and new service packs might not work with some hacked versions being sold. Spending $200 might save a lot of headaches in the future. That's what I eventually did. Bought a legit copy of XP and MS Office. Then again it did help I lived in Seattle and if you don't know someone who works for Microsoft and can buy anything at the company store for 10% of list it probably is a good indication you've got very very bad body odor. |

And that little security implementation was broken the same day that SP2 was released. These are just attempts to stop the casual pirate, really. They know it won't deter the even slightly dedicated, because any security system devised by a human can be broken by a human and will be. |

I've never thought of it that way, very astute. |

Well I doubt a 128 bit public/private key system could be broken in our life time. |

The question is, do you want to have to wait for these shady people to get around the implementations, and do you want to have that question mark hanging over the heart of your computer?
Without Windows (for a great many), your computer is a table. If you are only going to buy one program in your computer's lifetime, why wouldn't it be the OS? I have to laugh at people that go out and buy games to fun on a cracked version of Windows...seems sadly odd.
Yet another good reason, is just to have another equation in a possible problem ruled out. Going legit with Windows at least takes the issue of it being a tampered-with installation out of the picture.
Just my thoughts....getting a downloaded copy of Windows never crossed my mind, and at the time I bought it, I was at the height of my "free software spree", downloading everything and anything. It just made sense. If you get a cracked copy of WinDVD, the possible repercussions are small.....it may not work, and you have to use an alternative, of which there are many. If Windows goes south, you are out of luck....load up a distro if you like, but say goodbye to all you knew in computing.
I agree with Hank...there will always be circumventions. Not necessarily "breaks" of the security, but workarounds and patches that will neuter it. |

You're kidding, right? Suppose you're going to go the stupid way and brute force the encrypt key, yeah you're looking at a long time. There's still a way to brute force something relatively quickly, though, and it's distributed computing. Just like SETI@home or Folding, you set up a small client, pass it around, and just let multiple computers keep attempting keys. Eventually you're going to get through provided you've got enough eyeballs looking at something.
Usually it doesn't even happen through brute force, though. Usually there's some drone in an associated industry that screws up the system and invalidates the copy protection scheme. Look at how DECSS for the DVD was finally cracked. Or how about the X-Box BIOS?
The weak link is always going to be the human link in any security scheme. |

WinXP Home edition in English can be found in Yongsan for under 200,000 won.
Or you can buy the 10,000 won version of WinXP Pro (better security and more features) and go to this site:
File Depository
DL this file:
Windows XP Product key Changer
After installing XP run that program. 20 secs maybe. You can then go to the Windows update site for SP1, SP2 and all the other updates. I used it last month for a friend. I used it many times over the last 4 years.
Or learn about Linux. It's free. |

| I will sell you XP pro and Office XP Pro together with legitimate keys for 300.000 won. If you want, I'll install them for you and do all updates as well. In Canada I owned my own computer shop, so I have a corporate version of both.(corporate versions allow you to use key for unlimited installations on unlimited systems) This is not brain surgery folks...legit OS first, and then add your pirated junk afterwards. If nothing else works, the OS will. If interested, PM me |

The keys may be 'legitimate' but the software still won't be legitimate unless you are also going to be providing licences with them. If you're not, then why the heck would anyone pay W300,000 when they could get it at Yongsan for a fraction of the price, or download from PtP for free?
Still, if you actually find someone to take you up on your 'generous' offer, then more power to you. |
