What is your perception of Korean brands?
For example, what do you think of Samsung electronics, Hyundai autos, and Daewoo fishing poles? Feel free to use your own examples.

Well, I remember a raffle where one of the prizes was a KIA , and one of the guys I worked with said he still wouldn't be caught dead driving one. Another guy at the same office drove a Hyundai Tiburon and that was jokingly acknowledged as a babe magnet. |

It took Hyundai the better part of two decades to out live the Hyundai Pony disaster. After the Yugo it's probably one of the worst cars ever to hit North America. A mechanic friend would describe it as "the world's first disposable car". The recession and fuel price rise has helped sales. Cheap transportation, 10 year warrenty, and fuel economy have all helped make people take a second look. Will they ever capture the high end? That's the next move. I think the best thing Hyundai could do is release a rag top roadster at a good price point.
I long avoided Korean electronics like Samsung based on a Goldstar microwave oven I had that fried out on me after a year. But in the last few years, they've really taken the market for a lot of things like flat panel display. I like their laptops but I'm scared that they lack English support.
I like some of the Korean clothing brands like A6 and Bean Pole. |

While quality control is getting better for korean products...the same can't be said for non products. If korea is to remain good at what it's doing in the "making of goods," it needs to concentrate on relationships with the rest of the world. Many visitors visit korea...but...very very few return for a second or even third visit except for ESL teachers. Koreans have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot. |

The reputation of Samsung and LG in the computer and consumer electronics markets has skyrocketed over the past decade, as has Hyundai in the auto market.
In Korea almost all brands are Korean, so it's a little hard to see the forest for the trees if you've been there a number of years. |

There was a bit of a storm in a teacup in the UK over the comments made by the top TV car pundit, Jeremy Clarkeson.
He basically said Korean cars are completely boring and he'd never drive one even if you paid him.
Lots of irate Koreans in the UK jammed the BBC's phonelines over that one.
He's right though. They are boring.
Hyundai et al really need to make some sports cars. |

Eamo did you see the episode? I downloaded it and they did make some very good points.
I personally think korean brands are gaining more market acceptance on the whole. Personally I always by japanese and european instead but that may change (other than hifi and cars). |

Do you know the broadcast date? |
