I was kind of drawn to this at first, it looks cool, is cheap and handy to carry around-
but surely the lack of screen and choice of what you listen to would drive you crazy in a week or two?

You have a choice between "Play In Order Mode" and "Shuffle." There's a switch on the back.
Even without a display, it's exactly what I've been looking for. A seamless interface with OS X and iTunes, but I wouldn't hate my life if I lost it. The cost of the disk-based iPods was stopping me from buying one. I'd be paranoid about dropping it all the time.
Does anyone have any idea when these will be arriving at the Apple Store in COEX? |

Too little too late- as a long time flash player user (6 years now), I have to say that it royally sucks. What was Apple thinking?
No display.
No navigating through the playlist.
No FM.
No voice recording.
These sorts of features are STANDARD on every other flash player.
The only people who are going to buy this are people who look at it and say "Gee! It says 'iPod' on it it, so it MUST be good".
Apple is riding on its reputation here and taking its customers for a ride- a sad thing to see.

$100 for a 512mb mp3 player is a pretty good price point. My iRiver 512mb player sells in the states for about $200. But for that extra $100 I get a display screen, all kinds of sound level controls, voice recording mode, fm radio player, and it doesn't have a built in battery that's going to shrink to 2 hours of juice after a year of regular use.
In sum, I wouldn't buy one. I'd cough up more for more. |

ipod's have terrible built in batteries. It's the number one complaint. The original 20 hours shrinks to a couple hours after a year of regular use. It's the nature of Li batteries. And replacing the battery costs $100. I dunno, I'd only buy an MP3 player that lets you use cheaper AA or AAA rechargables. Nothing sucks like having a built in battery, the charge dies, and you can't slap in a back up AA to give you more juice. |

I've already got an iRiver hard disk player, and it rules- I was just momentarily distracted by the shiny appleness of this new gizmo. |

| I heard the battery only lasts 18 months and cannot be replaced. Is that true? |

James you know about the video playback with the new Korean firmware right......and the customs skins are amazing too. Oh and the LCD remote is sliiiick........
*edit* just re-read, if you have the optical in out then you don't have the H340 so no video for you. |

But I just want to press a button and listen to music!
I came very close to buying an iRiver flash player a couple months ago, but I'm glad I held off. For Macintosh users, there will be nothing better than an iPod. Especially this new, cheap one that plugs directly into the USB port on my Powerbook. Other MP3 players just aren't as convenient in OS X.
I know I'm going to get it from the Mac haters, telling me I'm a blind follower of the party line. The fact is, I use a Mac. I like it. I've liked nearly everything Apple has developed since their revival in the late 90's, and the iPod Shuffle is no exception. Apple stuff works well with Apple stuff.
Listing features irrelevant to my goal of pressing a button and listening to music won't make me buy a PC-centric MP3 player instead. |

by custom skins do you mean this kind of thing
or the iskin cases that I can't find in Korea?
I bought the LCD remote from a place near Gwanghwamun after getting the crappy plastic one when I bought it.
Anyway yeah, I'm still on the H140 tip.
(Can't believe I just used that phrase) |
