So I have been working at the same school for two years now, I renewed once so far.
2.1 million a month up of from 2 and a larger
apartment for my second year is what I asked for and I got it.
Now I am coming up on my second extension.
I have a fantastic working environment, teach about 17 hours a week, and live about 2 minutes from the school.
The brand new apartment is fantastic, top floor, balcony, huge windows – awesome!

And I wonder what I should expect from extending.
I realize that the school saves air 1.4 million, eastern Canadian,
1 million recruiting fee, 400K visa-run.
Anyway, just shy of 3 million won.

Also, I should note that I am very close to the owners.
It is a family run business and they have been great to me.
For my grandmothers funeral and brothers wedding they gave me 200 000 won extra for each occasion!

So, should I potentially hurt my working relationship by
asking for some of the money they would have to spend if I were not renewing?

any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would not calculate the Japan Visa. That doesn't seem too fair since it is not standard for teachers to go there. Also, recruiting fees can be as low as 800,000 won, it seems you chose the maximum amount in your calculations. Incorporating the airfare seems reasonable.

Of course, they are not required to give you any part of that money, nor can you ask for it. I suggest you don't say that you specifically want a cut of that money.

You can consider their savings and make your request based on your knowledge of how much it would take to replace you. I'm sure they are aware of the costs to replace you.

It seems that they have been a decent school. Yes, it is your right to squeeze every cent you can out of them, but consider what you are losing if they reject your new demands.

There's pretty much a cap on what a hagwon teacher will earn. If you are in a great situation (which it seems that you are), I wouldnt make the $$ raise a sticking point.

Pretty sure there would be hundreds more biting at the bit for that gig of yours.
