I'm wondering what experiences others have had with Korean-brand TVs. Samsung is the leader but its TVs are really overpriced, esp. the HD ones. LG seems to be better at making appliances such as washers, vacuums and the like.
I used to have an Anam TV and it was ok, but any Daewoo product is a piece of crap.
Any thoughts? |

Might have put this in the Technology Forum?
But okay, here's my 2 pennies. You want to limit this to TVs, but the topic is broader than that. (With the exception of cellphones) I only ever consider buying a Korean product when the item in question (flat-panel TV, computer monitor, microwave oven, fridge, washer, etc.) has ceased to be a cutting-edge piece of sophisticated geewhizzery and has become just another mass-produced lump of plastic & circuitry.
For PDAs, digital cameras, ipod/iriver, projectors, the whole vast range of audio equipment, and the like, hell, I'll by Japanese-Made-in-China before I'd consider a Samstung, an Elegy, or a Dagwood. But for "general appliances" (though not coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, electric shavers, printers, etc.) sure, I'd go with any of the Big Three Korean brands. They're all much of a muchness when it comes to basic consumer electronics (cellphones being the rare exception).
TVs in particular, though? I'd probably let Samstung, Elegy and Dagwood underbid each other to death, and then turn around and buy some Japanese brand or another. Oh, okay... LG. There. Happy? |
