It's called Dorasan , i think. You can see into North Korea but it's not very exciting. You have look through those big binocular things at 500 won per turn. There's a big north korean flag and a couple of apartment buildings and a few rows of cookie-cutter houses in the midst of this empty mountain range. The apartments are pretty tall, but they're out in the middle of nowhere. I guess they were built to drive the south koreans mad with jealousy. 'Oh...if only i could live in a nondescript apartment building..." Also near there are the not-so-secret tunnels to north korea.

Yep, that's all on a Korean tour of the DMZ.

Dogbert, when was the last time you took that tour? It's been 10 years since I did, and I think it's about time I took a "refresher course". And I actually just went to Panmunjom.... never saw the tunnels. Sad

I took it in November 2004. I drove to Imjingak and bought the package there for the same day. Nowadays they point out the Kaesong industrial park under construction, which is visible if the haze isn't too thick.

Sunset over North Korea as seen from Dorasan observation point:

my gramps died 3 weeks ago. he was stationed in panmunjom for a year.

he played hockey (built a rink, many of you have seen the photo at gecko's) on the imjin river. i'm sure he had climbed all those mountains.

whatever, i'm mostly just drunkenly reminiscing and bragging. my gramps was awesome.
