Why is a newbie starting a thread about bashing newbies? A newbie is not even allowed to use sarcasm like this for the first month. Laughing

I didn't think newbies were allowed to start threads or ask questions until after their month-long probationary period. Looks like we'll have to teach this one a lesson. Swiss James, keep an eye on those inbound flight manifests.

G'head!

I actually had the last post on that one... A real thread killer, put that baby in a coma for over a month. Pickings have been slim lately, so maybe the sleeping giant needs to be awoken.

Random pics of bunnies with stuff on their heads are running scarce lately though, so I'm gonna need to find some new thread fodder...

I usually try to be tactful to newbs, unless they are sitting in their parent's basement and only thinking about coming over here, but get into telling us what they think life is really like over here, and that we've got it all wrong. Then, I enjoy taking a sheot down their non-FAQ reading throats.

(Psst! Chronic -- What's all this about "parents' basement" I keep coming across in Dave's? Clear enough from the context it's an all-weather putdown, but I'm afraid I'm missing something -- the visual isn't resonating. And why always parents? Why always basement? What's going on? Small houses? Confused North Americans like wiring their basements for Internet? It's safer to surf naughty sites from out-of-the-way, subterranean locales? Confused Embarassed I'm badly not getting this.)

It's only a matter of time before someone starts taking this thread too seriously, preaching about cultural sensitivity, "maturity" and the divine rights of veterans.

Does anyone have a large bucket of hot buttered popcorn? Laughing

Anyone know where I can get deodorant?

Or dish towels?
Or Tim Hortons coffee?
Or real bed sheets?
Or nice cheese?
Or haggis?

I'm a newbie and I don't feel the least bit intimidated - I don't see why someone would. Most people here are male 20-somethings, some of whom will always feel insecure about some things in life and have something to prove once in a while - nothing to get upset over. You're an English teacher, so if people are poking fun of poor grammer it's well deserved and you should probably be visiting some other part of the net where you can learn some.

Using this site's search engine is also a great way to avoid having to ask the same questions every other newbie has.

One suggestion, however - it would be nice if this site had a seperate page for all Visa / Contract related questions, to clear up the work-related board and all the visa questions that pop up on every other board.

Is there a different one that I don't know about...?
'Cause the one I've been using is a pile of dog crap.

I thought that that was the point of having the FAQ.
