On the Busan subway:
A Korean guy in a shirt and tie handing out jesus flyers and doing some kind of preach (pretty loudly). He walks up to the three of us waygooks, hands us flyers, then attempts to preach to us in english. We couldn't understand a word he was saying. We could kinda make out something he kept repeating, that sounded like "...savior" or "save...somthing or other". But in the end, it just sounded like he was saying "shave your computer". We couldn't stop laughing.

Another of my favorite scenes in that in which two Koreans are talking to each other in Korean, but they throw in a few English words to attract the wegookin's attention.

I went bowling last weekend, where I pulled a 148 then a 155(best day ever) and next to us were this three Korean guys.
All their game, they were going, okay, okay, okay, NICE,
So we started going, joha, joha, jalhaeso, jalheaso.

It was funny, and we were all laughing at each other so much that in our 3rd. game we all bowled together, and of course, I got a bloody 85. Korean wipped our butts but a fun experience.

When I was courting the wife, we bowled regularly. I always got a kick out of how you had to cheer or clap for the people playing on either side of you.

Does anyone get ambushed by Jehovahs Witnesses in their home? 2x in the last month I have had them come to my door. Fair enough, thats there own belief and I wont be rude. However, when they realize that my Korean lacking at best and they still insist on talking for a good 5 minutes and shoving pamphlets in my face. Grrrr... it gets a little annoying. Usually I just show them my trusty crusifix and they back away slowly...

I remember the time a bible thumper slipped something in my pocari sweat when i was taking the subway to Suwon. I woke up nailed to a cross which was tied to the antenna at the very top of the Namsan Tower. I hung there for 6 months..

Man that was no fun at all

Why is it that all the freaks and whackos seem to be able to speak some form of English?
The whackier they are the more they wanna speak. There's an oldish dude in my neighbor hood who always wants to talk to me about North Korean and Russian plots. Japanese sometimes too. Another geezer always wants to sell me ginseng pills and then talks about the benefits for a healthy sex life, stamina, power... ugh.
And don't get me started on the Jesus freaks!
Is there a special hagwon for these sorts of people?
English for Freaks Come Out at Night.

Jeeezuz!!!

I think Koreans will pay for any kind of hagwon there is. Maybe I should find myself some loser and make him the head teacher os my Starcraft hagwon, and then down the street, open a masturbation hagwon. I will be rolling in the dough.

Who wants to be my head lecturer at the masturbation hagwon?

I just take the pamphlet, say thank you and close the door before they have a chance to speak. Literally snatching it from their hand!

After getting rid of them he found out they had written "" on his door in permanant marker.

What amazes me, is when these things must have made such an impression on the posters that write about them here, that he/she still remembers the experiences on returning home to the computer, and such an impresseion indeed that he / she feels compelled to write about it. When these things happen to me, and they almost daily do, the incident has all but left my mind two minutes later.

One of my flatmates a year and a half ago had a system for when Korean Jehovah's Witnesses came door-knocking. He would calmly tell them (in Korean) "I am Buddha", then close the door. He reasoned that he had to say this, because he didn't know how to say "I am Buddhist". All of this from a 6'2", blond, skinny, non-Buddhist Canadian.

I guess none of you ever had the Buddhist evangelists come to your apartment. They visited my wife while I was at work once. Luckily she fobbed them off with some day-old bread (they seem to like food donations) and managed to avoid opening the door on a return visit.

If I had been there it would have been a unique experience for me to start praising Jesus just to get rid of the evangelists. Very Happy

The worst one was when my fiancee answered the door (I wasn't there) and these Bible-thumpers basically invited themselves in, pushing past her, asked for water, which my fiancee is too nice to deny. Then they asked all the nonsense about attending church, praying, and all that jazz, while my fiancee edges them out of the doorway and basically has to close the door in their face to get them to leave.

The best is they yelled "Be nice!" through the door after my fiancee had closed it. Whatsupwiththat?!?

The best one I have heard (twice) as a way to dispel and repel the religious thumpers.....

Open the door naked.
