He's already signed the contract. And only now does he tell me with which school ... and snooping around on Dave's I find LOADS of horror stories about the Kids College chain. I've heard that there can be a wide variation among individual franchises in a chain, and that my own school, SLP, has its bads and its goods (I'm at a good). None of the posts talk about his specific Kids College, in Mok-dong. Does anyone know if this school is the exception? A lot of the posts do suggest that Kids College is awful on an overall level...

So if this is true, and he's signed the deal with the devil, but he's not leaving Canada for almost 3 weeks, what can he do to get out of it? He still wants to come to Korea, so he'd like not to screw over his further employment/visa getting chances by breaking a contract ... but I suspect he'd also like to avoid a year in hell.

I should also mention that he hasn't sent off his diploma or any of the visa app stuff yet. Fortunately.

No problems at all to not take that job. I'm sure it's a forged signature anyway. Wink

This is just off the top of my head and I am going by my reading of this board and others over the past four years. I am pretty sure that I have read things (not good ones) about a Kid's College in Mok-dong. I cannot remember what, but I would say do some further searching on the school and what people have said (if any) about it.

Damn you people are fast! Thanks for the thoughts, and I just found out that he hasn't actually sent the signed contract out, just faxed it to his recruiter, so it looks like he's okay. But now there's a new question to be asked: is his recruiter legit? I mean, there are so many freakin' stories about this place, I would think that no responsible recruiter would do any business with them whatsoever. Anybody know these guys?

Teacher Tech. It's not a bad website, looks pretty professional, pretty slick, but then, here on the internet, nothing is what is seems. I, for example, am a 78-year old corn farmer from Papua New Guinea. And I have no hands.

A few years back I worked for Kid's College Kimpo. It was a franchise of the main office- you know, a McSchool. They pushed a cirriculum based on pirated materiel from various grade levels, most of which was light years ahead of the kindy classes you would teach. I guess if the place was well run it wouldn't be too bad, but the pirate I worked for was in it for the money, the money and just the money. I didn't get screwed, but many of my fellow teachers did. The good thing about that was that if you didn't like the people you were with, you only had to wait a month or two and they would be gone and a new batch would be on the scene. I must admit that I was paid on time and I did get my bonus. But then agian, I am tough as nails and can take a great deal of BS. Some could not or would not.
