Hi,

Before I saw this term flotaing around this site, I never knew there was such a thing. Can someone give me the low down, plz? What does a modded xbox do that a normal one can't? How do you mod one? Is it legal (somehow I think I know the answer to that one already)?

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Right. As funny as that site is, it doesn't really help me.

Anyone?

Try http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php

One of the biggest advantages is that you can put a bigger hdd in it and back up all the games you buy from E-Mart onto it.
Modding the XBOX is legal, it just violates Microsoft's user agreement...

Do a search here for threads in the tech forum about the happy things you can find in Yongsan.

Anyways I always forget that google is my friend, too. Very Happy

That X-Falcon reminds me of William Gibson's concept of the "Sandcaster" computers.

Basically they open up your machine and put a special chip in it which will override the limitations. Video game consoles are programmed to play games from only one geographical region, as well as DVDs from only one region, not to mention safeguards that will make the player refuse to play pirated games. The "mod" chip overrides these protections and lets you play just about anything on it, pirated or not.

Keep in mind that when you open the machine up, your warantee becomes void.

No. Well, maybe. I know that xbox live is out of the question when the console's been modified. Worth looking into.

Only when you have the switch on modded mode. When I got mine modded I was shown a switch:
up=modded
down= normal

When I want to play Halo2, Rainbow6, Counter Strike, or FIFA2005 online, I just put my XBox in normal mode and go online.

That's news to me...good news in fact. Not what the guy told me yesterday at Yongsan, but I'll take your word for it. Is there a special name or whatever for the button so I can ask the mod guys what to do? Is the switch inside or at the back of the console etc...? This would be great to have a modded hdd and have live capability.

Never try to get on XBOX Live with your mod chip enabled! Anyways, these questions can be answered better and quicker on the XBOX Scene FAQ and forum pages... Very Happy

My switch is on the left side. I notice that when booting up, if the X is purple it's modded, green it's normal; in modded there is a menu for the hard drive as well. Anyway, if you find the switch, try it, and if you still have a problem getting hooked up to Live just have the XBox auto detect your settings.
Hope this answered your questions.
