Been here 9 years...off and on...and in different areas of Korea (southeast, mid-west, and west) and would be glad to PM anyone with questions about life in general...what to bring...what contracts to avoid...and any "off the wall" question which they may think are "stupid" but really aren't...and especially from "older" teachers looking to come here...(started my "Korean experience" when I was 40+).

This is one of the best (most useful) threads I have read since registering in late 2004. Since many of you are offering advice on your areas of expertise, I wonder if somehow this could be made a sticky.

I would have relied heavily on this PM method at the very beginning of my research and will probably utilize it now.

Great idea. I think alot of the newbies are a bit timid about posting because occasionally they aren't exactly received with the best attitude.

I'll help out. I've been here three years, I know a bit about public schools, teaching adult and business classes, contracts and other stuff. I'm researching FAQs on a bunch of stuff for that other site now so if I don't know the answer, chances are I'll be able to point you in the right direction at least. ( current projects are Legal and immigration FAQs)

EDIT: I still think this thread is a great idea, but it's very much in need of updating. I left the country a few years ago, and i can't really give useful advice on Korean related issues anymore, sorry.

I know that Jongno Guru, jaderedux and derrek are unable to respond to PMs for various reasons, and can't update their status to say so.

BTW, I've worked in the corporate offices of a recruiting/placement/personnel company, I've worked a few contract positions with Robert Half International, and have been in over a dozen contract negotiations with other recruiters, most of which fell through. I don't know jack about Korea, but if you have questions about recruiters or their tactics, I would gladly help. I've been thinking about writing something about it, but it would probably get lost in the pettyness.

If I may be so bold...newbie comment #2.

I have registered on both sites. On each, I read the forums and topics that interest me and do not read the ones that don't. The thing I hate the most is someone creating an absolutely wonderful thread, then seeing it become poisoned with negativity. (This thread is a good example!)

I would like to see both sites/boards coexist as I believe there is a symbiotic relationship developing.

As mentioned in my prior post, I think the PM concept is wonderful. I guarantee that I will PM some of the folks that have volunteered their time.

Been here for three years and married a Korean woman - I'm from Scotland, so if any Brits want info about the UK side of the paperwork/procedures then I'll help out.

Also K-League football is my particular field of interest, so feel free to ask anything about that.
