How can South Korea be the fucking hub of Asia if it can't get it's fucking ATM machines to fucking work! During a fucking holiday no less. God damn, sometimes I wonder about the compentence of the people in charge. Evil or Very Mad

They're probably out of money, most people here know to withdraw a chunk before the holidays because the ATMS won't be refilled until after.

I don't know. It's in Korean. I went to four different places yesterday, and they all said the same thing. I went back to one place today and the same message. It's not my card, because I tried my bankbook, too. This is really frustrating. This only happens if I'm in Seoul or it's a fucking holiday. A guy took money out of the one I went on Tuesday.

Assuming you went to the ATMs during their typical operating times (Even glorious Japan shuts down the ATMs after a certain hour) then it's most likely they ran out of money.

On holidays, people tend to take out large sums of cash just to cover all bases. You're usually S.O.L. come the first night of the holiday. I've been in the same situation before. Chalk it up to experience.

Of course, I just thought of this: Are you sure you have money in there?

Of course I have money in there. I checked it on Monday. Something else I just thought of. I couldn't even check the balance. It would give me an error message.

It happens twice every year. Seollal and Chuseok. The cash machines run out of cash on the first day of the holiday because Koreans know they won't be refilled for 3 days.

This is the first year I remembered to take out a chunk of cash before the holiday.

Customer service is still seen as something new-fangled in Korea.

Could it be that your account is with the foreign exchange bank, and they are doing something with their system during the holiday?

My flat mate had this same problem. He went to 3 or 4 different ATM's and none would give him money. However I went to my banks ATM on the Tuesday and was able to get money out without any problems, while my flatmate couldn't (he was with a different bank). Perhaps preferencial service? Smile
