does anyone out there have any experience or insight into tutoring CEOs as primary work? it sounds like it might be unstable, sketchy, isolating? would working for a decent hogwan be better? anyone? any advice on contracts for such? |

I did this in my first year for a stretch, but it was supplemental to my E2. It was around 15hrs/week. I found it to be quite reliable and steady, until we went into business together and things fizzled out. We operated on a Korean traditional -style contract, which I was very uncomfortable with at first, especially being new to Korea, and just coming off of employment in the hyper-intensive contract world of private banking, back home.
I'm doing relatively the same now, except that I'm also working with the VPs, and we have a fixed contract.
In my experience, if they are sponsoring you and you have a fixed contract, I'd be much more relaxed. If it's supplemental -contract type stuff, it may be hit/miss. |

what's a korean-style contract? the thing that worries me is that now is when all the hogwans/other schools hire so if this doesn't work out, and the contract isn't tight, i will be looking for work at an inconvenient time, right? also, what's the work environment like? are they (ceo's) usually demanding, chauvinistic, etc.? so should i play it safe or gamble for the perks, etc.?
he's offering 2mil + housing, 25hrs/week (one hour teaching/ four answering the phone/light office work) -- is that good? what should i ask for re vacation, etc.? |

If the housing is good, that sounds great. |

Are you on smack?
DON"T TOUCH IT. He wants a foreign girl to parade. Why do you think the jobs like that aren't open to men? More reliable than women, but he doesn't want one on his arm does he?

I taught parttime, an hour every day, and loved it. I taught the top two dogs, and had a great time. And as some one mentioned, they take you out from time to time and introduce you to everyone as your teacher. Its kinda cool.
If you are answering the phones the other 4 hours.. sounds nice. I'd do it. You'd have fun with the people in the office as well - the Koreans. Sounds a 1000 times better than a hogwan! |

I've taught CEO and VP types in Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
My experience has always been good. The folks I've met have always been really easy to work with and always generous.
Corporates were extremely lucrative in Tokyo, as well. |

Everyone in Korea is a goddamn "CEO." Find out exactly what that means. That said, I am teaching an upper level exec (seriously) right now and it's great. But it sure ain't my main job. |
