After my first year I didn't apply to get the pension back cuz I had a round trip ticket, so they wouldn't do it.
Now towards the end of my second year I have a question for any Canadians that have done the pension reimbursement thing:
When you get your check/wire in Canada, do you also get some kind of income statement thing?
The reason I'm asking is tax related. Don't want to bother with non-residency and don't feel it is right to pay taxes on money I didn't earn in Canada. So, when filing, just want to leave it blank and if caught, play stupid "sorry, I didn't have a record of my income from Korea so I didn't know what to claim"
Thanks for any info ... and yes, I realize "playing stupid" could get me in to trouble. |

I just got my pension deposited in my Korean account as opposed to Canadian. With global bank cards it has worked fine. There was no statement issued. |

Now, I agree with you there...why pay taxes on such matters, if your not earning then in the country your working...
From what I know is that there is a Canadian-Korean Income Tax Treaty (not sure of all the details)but one Revenue Canada personal I spoke to before coming here said to include my world income on a "post-it note" and submit it with my income tax form, but not to include it as part of your net income on your actual income tax file...
It seems whoever you speak to, they give you a different answer all the time.
Anyone else have similar situations? Or new ones?

If you leave halfway through your first year are you still entitled to claiming this Pension money? Is it worth the hassle or would it be better for tax reasons to just let it go. I am totally confused about what to do for taxes coming up, I"m hoping my accountant can be of more help haah. |

I'm not completely sure about the pension thing, but my husband called and they told him that one month before my departure date I can go to the pension office place with my plane ticket, paper thing that my employer gave me, passport, and bankbook. I'm not sure how long the whole thing takes....but I will actually be doing it in March sometime...I'll be sure to post something about it. |
