| Righty... this is more serious than I thought! I'm probably going to get one tomorrow with my ha-suk jib mother. Still seems like a waste of money though - at least it's 10000won not 50000won. Thanks for the replies! |
Dude, its a REQUIREMENT by IMMIGRATION. Its not a waste of money, its the freaking LAW. Hell, just forget it. Dont get one and then get charged a LOT OF MONEY by imigration. |
D.W., be nice. You're not necessarily right anyway, and even if you were, you could try softening your tone now and then.
I don't think he's a teacher -- MrCul seems to be a student. If he's from one of several countries (as ajumma said about Canada) and just doing one 2 month term in a language school, he does not need an ARC. If he's staying for longer (more than 3 months?) he will need to go to immigration and apply for a different visa. He may be on a tourist visa that allows him to study.
I do think he needs to go to immigration if his school suggested it -- he is probably near the end of the grace period or something. |

Casey's moon is right - I'm a student here, but I just got here 3 days ago, and my school term doesn't start until march. I live at a hasuk (homestay) house so I don't really have bills - and Sogang uni just blabed to my hasuk auntie about one - I didn't know they were compulsory. I'm getting one today. thanks for the help!
BTW Daechidong Waygookin, you've got some problems. |

Teacher, student, labourer, maid....after 3 months one is required to have an ARC.
But just forget it. Dont listen to DW. You dont really need an ARC.
Then again, from Immigration:
| Quote: |
A foreigner who wants to stay in Korea longer than 90 days shall register at a district or branch office which has jurisdiction over his/her place of sojourn within 90 days from the date of arrival.
A foreigner who wants to stay in Korea more than 90 days is required to register. Foreigners who should register are as follows
A foreigner who wants to stay in Korea more than 90 days from the date of entry
A foreigner who wishes to stay in Korea more than 90 days from the date of obtaining
the status of sojourn owing to birth or getting another country's citizenship after his/her
renunciation of Korean nationality
A foreigner who obtained the permission for change of sojourn status and desires to
stay in Korea more than 90 days from the date of entry. |
There are ofcourse exceptions. Do you, MrCul, fit into any of these categories?
| Quote: |
A-1 : Diplomatic missions of countries recognized by the Korean Government, consular officers assigned to represent their countries in Korea, foreigners granted privileges equal to diplomatic mission in accordance with treaty or internationally accepted norms and practices, and their immediate families.
A-2 : Foreigners who carry out official service of the countries or international organizations recognized by the Republic of Korea and their immediate families.
A-3 : Foreigners who are exempted from foreign registration or deemed necessary to be exempt from it according to the agreement with the Republic of Korea and their immediate families.
Foreigners who are engaged in critical diplomatic, industrial and national defence services, and who are deemed necessary to be exempt from foreign registration by the Minister of Justice.
Canadian nationals who wish to stay in Korea no longer than 6 months with the status of D-1(culture/art), D-6(religious workers), F-1(visiting and joining families), F-3(dependent families), or G-1(other) |
So you see, MrCul, you di infact NEED to register. Was I harsh? Not nearly as harsh as Immigration would be if you broke this very important rule. What would you say to an immigration officer who charged you several HUNDRED thousand won and yelled at you? "Mr. Immigration man, you've got some problems?". |

No, it's just the fact that you seem to care so much what I do. I was always going to get the card, so there was never going to be a problem.

I think you need to learn that there are two ways you can say something - you can be an ordinary human being like the other posters, or you can be an a***hole, you seem to chose the later. |

Without wanting to get bogged down in the exchange of plesantries between the two of you, this doesn't quite compute... |

Holyjoe,
Please Be Careful.
Logical and rational points seem to cause some posters to experience neurological activity. |
