Seriously, don't you think these would have made much better 'world languages' than English? Phonetic too. Check out how you conjugate a Norwegian verb:
Present
jeg armer
du armer
han armer
vi armer
dere armer
de armer
Present Perfect
jeg har armet
du har armet
han har armet
vi har armet
dere har armet
de har armet
Past
jeg armet
du armet
han armet
vi armet
dere armet
de armet
Past Perfect
jeg hadde armet
du hadde armet
han hadde armet
vi hadde armet
dere hadde armet
de hadde armet
Future
jeg vil arme
du vil arme
han vil arme
vi vil arme
dere vil arme
de vil arme
Future Perfect
jeg vil ha armet
du vil ha armet
han vil ha armet
vi vil ha armet
dere vil ha armet
de vil ha armet
Present
jeg ville arme
du ville arme
han ville arme
vi ville arme
dere ville arme
de ville arme
Perfect
jeg ville ha armet
du ville ha armet
han ville ha armet
vi ville ha armet
dere ville ha armet
de ville ha armet |

Naturally. Linguistically, English is far from perfect for ease of learning and ease of use. There are certainly much easier languages to learn. I studied Icelandic in university and it was fairly straightforward too I think. Really just like Norwegian in a time warp. (Norwegian circa 1000 AD)
However since English was scattered to the four winds by the English because of their Empire, I think it is the best choice. The Alphabet is also quite easy to learn. Mandarin Chinese may be spoken by more people fluently but their "alphabet" (for lack of a better word) is quite a bit more difficult.
I believe Real Reality quoted some source saying English will be spoken by 3 billion people in 10 years. Quite amazing I think. So at least for the next little while English will be the "Lingua Franca" so to speak. It gives me a job all over the world anyway. |

Mithridates,
just checking.
You're conjugating the verb 'to be' right? |
