Sure the SBS program has kept this little storm in a teacup going for a while longer but it will go away if the media drops this issue. Koreans don't have a very long attention span when it comes to issues.

It would not be a wholly bad thing for Korea to have a public debate about the ESL industry here. Massive amounts of money are poured into a largely unregulated industry for quite marginal results.

I would humbly suggest that a TV program seeking viewers is probably not the best place for that discussion.

One-sided racist diatribe: nothing new to Korea. An article with an incriminating photo showing a western guy with a Korean girlfriend, wow, call the police.
If they want to expel me from Korea for such crimes as dating a Korean 30 year old, and putting up with cr*p from their bratty kids for years, they must get on with it, plenty of other countries need to learn English.

Somehow, we must have our say: theres no point sitting back, silence indicates guilt to Koreans. Get busy writing letters to the local papers etc..challenge the rubbish they print! Most of us work to hard and conscientiously, under their difficult conditions, to be labelled in this way.
However I don't trust the media here to give it to us at all- pandering to xenophobic insecurities sells a lot of papers here, journalists are far from responsible or even-handed.
I talked about it in a recent interview with the press here- which they have so far refused to publish of course.

I spoke about it to a korean recently online. She was convinced our jobs were easy, that we all got paid about 5 million a month, and that we're all players with 20 girlfriends apiece.
Koreans believe what they want to believe. Usually along the lines of them being innocent victims of some foreign conspiracy...

All of this is just plain silly.

Who judges if they are low quality? Why only if they try to pick up women in those areas? So if they are low quailty and not going after Korean women then don't deport them?

How about you let the girls choose and make sure your hagwons hire good teachers ie not just judge them because they are good looking but ask the school for their qualifications and phone numbers of other parents to ask questions about the teacher before you enroll your child.

How many arrests have there been for teachers having sex with children? How many marijuana arrests have there been that can be attributed to giving it out to students? While I do not smoke, I will be damned if I am going to give it out to my students (if I was teaching) when it costs as much as it does over here and have a greater chance of getting caught as I am putting it out in the open in a society that cannot refrain from gossiping.
