TACO Chili Chili DESTROYS Panchos..
That place is damn good..... |
Everyone has a different metric for Mexican food, I've noticed. Toronto generally has crappy Mexican food and Korean mex chow couldn't be much worse. If you're raised on Detroit's Mexican town, well, hard to find something that compares. I've never been to a Mexican restaurant south of the Rio Detroit, so I can't say what a Texan might think of Detroit Mexican town Mexican food.
That said, I've had two Mexican experiences in Korea. One was a place in Apkujeong that was horrid. The other was Chili Chilis by the noksapyeong station. Me and my friend from Portland, OR (the pacific northwest is not itself a hive of great Mexican food mind you) sat down to some burritos there. After a few bites we had to conclude "this is about as close as we're going to get in Korea". |

You guys are splitting hairs. They are both marginal.
I had the combination platter at Pancho's two days ago. The burrito was awful, the taco was just fine and the enchilada was really good. My date (!?!!!!!) had the fajitas, she enjoyed them. I tried them too, they were fine.
They were skimpy on guac and it was the costco stuff out of a tub. The salsa was fresh, but they didn't give us any chips when we sat down. That was a bit of a let-down. They did, however, have some bumping girls grinding it on the dance floor. I give it a 7, maybe an 8 thanks to the girls.
Chili Chili, on the other hand, is just down the road from my palace of sin in Haebangcheon and used to be a favourite stop-off of mine after work. I find the young guy there to be a nice guy but a bit of a cold fish for a Mexican restaurant. The old guy seems cool and really interesting, but he mostly just keeps his head down and cooks. The food is made with care, but I would do it differently. I stopped going there a while back, not sure why. My taste buds must be telling my body something. I give them a 6.5.
Yours,
PS |

Well, there's that and there's also two types of Messican. You've got the sloppy greasy lovers on one end and the people who want veggies and fancy crap on the other end. I'm on the veggies and fancy crap end (permeates my hometown), so I haven't found anything economical and good thus far. The best I've had is Pancho's, and it's okay, but it definitely burns a hole in the pocket compared to the price, and there's too many other restaurants in Itaewon that I'd rather consume food at. |

People never went to Detroit's Mexican town for the quality of food (even though it could be DAMN good at some places)... we went for the cheap and strong margaritas and Canadian money at par night you fool!!
Chili Chili's is good.. the end.
it has nothing to do where with you were brought up, blah, blah, blah... Mexicans move to other countries too you know... I'm sure they don't have a "you must leave all memory of good recipes for Mexican food behind" policy as far as I know either..
For those of you who do care about details like that I was told that he actually lived in Mexico for a bit.. whether that's true or not I don't know or care.. the man can make a mean burrito. |

both stink and I know the owner of Panchos (she owns Unique travel) and have told her that her menu needs improvement especially the fajittias, you don't use bulgogi meat for fajittias
the place on Youido is OK, they do have flan which makes me happy.
In reality the best Mexican I've had here is at Chilis Jamshil and that ain't nothing to brag about
I just wait until I get back to NA to get my Mexican fix or make my own at home |

Don't make me go down there and add it to the list of shit that permeates Korea in the name of Mexican food. I don't want to do it...I want to go in and have some tight food that makes me come back...but I doubt it's gonna placate me. Homemade burritos will do for now. |

The best Mexican food in Korea can be found in Grotto's kitchen. Just last week I had a great Chimichanga topped with sour cream and guacamole. served with refried beans and mexican rice with a side of chips and salsa.
Other dishes that are served on occasion are Grotto's famous chili, just spicy enough but not too hot.
Burritos and tacos also make their appearance from time to time. |

| Between the hours of 2pm-6pm, M-F, I can also be found in your kitchen, Grotto. You really gotta get that mildew problem taken care of. |

| The cook named the restaurant after her favorite place to visit. Or at least that's what the website says anyways. |

Does this mean there is a new Beaver's Wings or are you just being nostalgic?
If so, tell me where it is and I'll be by later today to test the tacos and nachos... |
