If I recall correctly, even stranger stuff has happened to you. |

It's the little green men (or something very similar)

What would constitute a worthy 'crisis' for you? |
Maybe when they start burning down hagwons, not that it will ever get that far. People tend to talk big on the internet. Makes the little guys feel powerful.

After starting so many 'sky is falling' threads, I never ever thought that I would see you say this to anybody. Just curious, but whatever happened to those Arabs you saw in Itaewon, last year, who were walking around carrying big bags, which prompted you to wax a full-on paranoia thread about a looming terrorist attack? Last I heard, I think it's been filed under 'Whoops'.

So, now we know how it feels to be an Arab in America.
I'm not trying to bash America, well.... yes I am, but these Quasi-journalistic programes are modeled after their American counterparts Like A current Affair. It is easy to demonise minorities in times of crisis and economic disparity. In my province, New Brunswick, often it is the French or Natives. In western Canada, The Asians face the same problems. I think it naieve to put our society above Korea when it comes to sensationalism, when sadly enough, we created it.
I have a suggestion. Keep yer noses clean. |
Good point. My buddy, who is Haitian-Canadian, told me that I'm the only one of his friends who understands how he feals about racism as I told him about the way I was treated during the economic crisis of 97-98. We grew up by Chaleur Bay. Where are you from in NB? |

I think what it all boils down to is that political correctness has reared it's ugly head in Korea. The same holds true in Canada unfortunately. Political correctness tends to take logic hostage and common sense is ignored.
The problem it seems is that a decent amount of Koreans view foreigners with suspicion. No matter how respectful you are or respectable you are, you are just a foreign devil out to sabotage this wonderful civilization that is Korea. What annoys me is the blatant hypocracy of it all. Did you know that South Korea is the 4th largest producer of child pornography in the world? Granted it is only 4% of the world's supply, but they are 4th. Do as I say, not as I do I guess. Attitudes are slowly changing, with the younger generation being much better informed about things, but it will still take awhile.
Taiwan doesn't look too bad right now. There is xenophobia there too I've heard but I don't think it could be any worse than Korea. |

Wait, how can they be politically correct and near Klansmen all at the same time? |
