What's the deal with the subway trains that don't go the whole distance on that line??
It is really frigging annoying when you have to depart and wait another 10 minutes for another train packed with people.
Is there any rational explanation to this? |

They don't go all the way because the far stations don't need as many trains because there is not as much traffic.
Read the station above the driver's window. That is the last station it goes to. |

Shift changes? End of peak hour?
Most of the places the trains stop (Sadang on the light blue line, Shindorim, Seongsu on the green line etc) are depot stops so the trains are going out of service when they stop there. |

There aren't many lines like that. The light blue line has one that runs only as far as Sadang. It's announced before hand in Korean and English and the electronic sign flashes the destination as well. Line 1 isn't really the subway system per se. Outside of the city core it piggy backs on an established rail network. Its more like a commuter train with trains going only as far as some transfer points. Again the destination is announced in Korea/English and there is usually an electronic board indicating such. There's a little crazy part on line 2 around Seongsu where line 2 splits off.
So the rational explanation is subway riders should be generally familiar with the system to avoid these once in a blue moon surprises. |

Mate, if you are talking about line 3, which I assume you are taking home, the final stretch, Gupabal to Daewha is owned by Korean National Railways and not the subway corporations. On the run out, every other train (ie those not run by KNR) stop at Gupabal and turn around. They usually announce this thought. If you are taking line one north, there are similar pitfalls, like the one that stops at Cheongnyangni. |

line 7 going north has 3 ending points, jangam, donbongsam and one other I forget. Also late at nite some trains don't go to the ends, read the signs for last train in the stations or check the subway websites. I know the last line 5 train going east only goes as far as gunja. think thats done to spread out the trains on various points
so yes some lines during the day don't go all the way to their ends and all of them don't go all the way late at nite |

Mate, right bloody well on the money there. I realise they announce it but when you are running for the train and don't hear/see the where it is going, it gets really bloody annoying.
at 11pm at night, the last thing I want to do is stop at frickin Gupabal for 10 mins. |
