Heard about a job, teacher will work at a public school with minimal hours and instead will be hired by a private institute (hagwon if I'm correct). The location, hours all seem just fine, but would like to know if it's officially legal or illegal for a school like a public school to have an esl teacher from a hagwon come there and work 4 hours a day?

Discussion about why they would do it that way are to the side, I just wonder if it's fully legal. But they did say it will be an E-2 visa. And why would a public school participate in something if it is blatantly illegal as they'd be in trouble too.

From what I heard is that the hagwon will be the caretaker/sponsor if I'm not mistaken. Just looking for official yes/no answers.

If you have it noted on your ARC its legal. If not, its 100% illegal. Immigration needs to OK it.

If its all fully cleared with immigration beforehand, its legal.

Yea, avoid that place like the plauge and do so immediately.

I worked for one of those last year, the guy is a major crook. Under extreme circumstances I would I approve of the idea. These are the people that require you to have 2 bank accounts. You get taxed at all of it even tho you only get 2 mil. They don't tell you about that account. There are also other problems that haven't been resolved yet and all of them are bad for you.

The best advice is get out ASAP but there is some very tempting mischief to pull off. That 2nd bank account is yours, you can lock those folks out and get the full pay instead of your 2 mil chump change.

interesting. even though I can't judge the place as of yet since I haven't scoped it out, delouz brings up the second question. anyways thanks for the first answers.

without yet jumping to conclusions one has to wonder why the school, a public / government one at that (apparently), would need to have an outside worker at their school. some room for scandal?

I worked at over 9 schools over the year.

If it were just me and the school, it would have been cool. 3.6 million each month and 4 hours a day is good.

Watch out for the double owner - you are owned by the school and by the business and they play each other off you. the bus will act like they are your employer but really they are a business partner so you cant go to labor board. they pull the double bank account thing off. The school gets to avoid having to answer to rights and laws and the business backs them up.

This is a new busness model and overwhelmingly shady. My school was on TV on Xmas cause we were so bad.

I'd apply but not sign, lie to them, and play them along, then spill a coke on thier desk.

What time frame?

One of my co-workers got farmed out to a public school for 3 or 4 hours a week. The money was paid to the hogwan and then they gave him his cut.

Basically he was thrown into a classroom and the kids went ape. Jumping on desks, yelling, shouting etc. It got to the point he refused to do it anymore and walked out.
