i'm just wondering if anyone thinks this is a good idea. i've been running outside but the air here sucks, but running while wearing a mask sucks even more. so is it a good idea to wear a mask, or does it even make a difference?

(Until someone gives you a direct reply: I like to jump rope in my apartment and watch TV or listen to music at the same time. Avoids the nasty air at least, but it is nice to be outside to work out...)

Why not?

Does it? If you live in Seoul I hear the yellow sand will soon choke you good too!

I started jogging again, and the air is fresh hereabouts. The air is a bit cooler though. Maybe a mask would help keep warm. Last year at this time I was swimming at the beach a few times; this year it's still a bit too nippy for that.

I ran with no mask for around a year with no ill effects. Perhaps 5 years from now I will develop some sort of lung cancer but..... your right, the mask would suck.

If you can get out of the city, the air is a lot nicer. I wouldn't want to wear a mask to run though.

I doubt it... the cancer thing I mean. I came here in 2000, lived (and still live) with a smoker, were surrounded by smoke (not so much these days because I stay at home mostly) everyday where I went. I had a chest x-ray done back in 2003. I thought for sure I was going to see blackened areas in my lungs - what with all the cigarettes smoke and fumes and whatnots I breathed in.. but to my utmost surprise, my lungs were as clear as could be! There are posters up in my building that look like wanted signs, featuring a picture of a guy in a mask robbing an ATM or some such business. I think if you run around wearing a mask like this you might draw some suspicion. So just don't carry a sack with a big dollar sign on it while you're running.

>. Running you ask ??? ha !!! I wear my mask even when walking, & this place is only half the size of where i was last year: Daejon.

Personally, one of the toughest things i find about living in Korea is maintaining my health. Even after giving up smoking some 9 months ago now, i still struggle with bronchial & respitory problems.

Bear in mind ... we engage in chemical warfare every time we step outside Shocked

*hack*

*cough*

Be sure to take care.
