Every now and then the subway ticket gate, notably one of the new ones, messes up and accepts your t-money card but half way through it thinks better of it and then rejects it. The timing is nearly perfect. The little flipper gates slam shut just has my kneecaps are occupying their plane of existence. BAM! They slap right into my kneecaps for a most painful effect. After two or nine times, you begin to brace yourself for a sharp pain every time you walk through the gate. I tell you.

Strange. This is one of the few bad things in Korea that hasn't happened to me ... yet.

How tall are you?

I have the same problem, but at the same height as the beaver (the poster, I mean... Wink )

I just wish they would put a little padding on them. Sometimes it can really hurt Embarassed

I once saw a muslim woman in Itaewon station with 2 children. She was carrying a young toddler and had another older toddler who was walking ahead of her. She was struggling with the child she was carrying and apparently walked too far before putting her ticket in the slot because
BLAMMO..her little girl (who was walking ahead of her) got a big, orange, stereophonic whack in the melon, sending the kid reeling and squealing like a flaming pig.
I thought it was kinda funny until the time I got kneecapped by those cursed contraptions....it effing hurts. Poor kid... Crying or Very sad
Now I go...feeling much shame.

Sorta related:

I once saw a mother on the express bus put her two year-old son right in the front of the exit doors. When the door opened, the kid was clamped by it and started screaming. The idiot woman then had the gall to yell at the bus driver. How retarded can someone get?

My beautiful girlfriend and I were getting off a bus and I dropped my water bottle's cap on the stairs. I just left it. She wondered why I did that. "Because the moment I turned and bent down to pick up the cap, the bus driver would have shut the door on my neck." Those Seoul bus drivers don't wait for anything. Sometimes those mofos gun the engine even before you're fully on the damn bus.

Put ticket in...wait half a second...doors open...jump...kick the crap outta the thing if/when it does snap on your knees...
Option two...wait for the thing to snap your knees and drop to the ground moaning, groaning, and screaming that you will sue...wait for SBS to cover the story...For a better effect wear a knee brace...

I once saw an ill behaved child run screaming from his OHMA (you was also ill tempered looking); he bolted through the gates and WAMMMO was fired back like a pinball.

It made my day.

We're the same height. Maybe I'm just hanging lower or something.
