I said nothing about why they should/would change it. I simply said "if" they wanted to they had the right.

I too think it is a silly arguement about the alphabetical order BUT in contrast I do not blieve that the English language "belongs" to anyone and thus a "us and them" situation.

I understand Ya-ta what you are saying, I simply dissagree with it.

The problem is that they are trying to tell foreigners how to spell the name foreigners have used for the place for the last 7 (?) hundred years. It is not the real name of the country.

It would be very much like Germans saying that we cannot call them Germans since they live in Deustchland, not Germany or Allemagne (or whatever it is the French call it).

Part of me wants to agree with this too. BUT "IF" the Germans felt passionate that they wanted to be known the world over as "Deutchfolk" (or something like that) then I would respect that.

I (along with many others on this board) have spent enough time travelling to know that there are ALOT of issues in the world. Not alll of them were neatly represented in the text books back home so when I do discover one of them overseas I tend "do in Rome".

Imagine this, you grow up your whole life calling Germans "Germans". Then you have the opportunity to go to Germany. Once there you discover that the majority of people feel offended by the word and it brings painfull feelings about the war. They have opted to go with "XXXX" and would you mind to do the same? Personally it wouldn't bother me a bit. Would it you?

edit: speaking of "names"

Maybe 'Captain Kyopo' would be a more appropriate username for you.
Do you really feel that someone expressing an opinion on this board needs to be called names?[/quote]
