Putting food waste in landfills is a pain for the environment. |

Well until now, I didn't even know there were separate bags for food. Thanks for the info. |

There are separate bins for "wets", usually large brown tubs, invariably evil-smelling. You tip your food waste into them.
Or, you put it in the pre-paid LA bags. |

Actually, what I thought you were supposed to do with trash is light a huge a$$ bonfire outside your apatu, and throw everything in. Then stand around and inhale the fumes, and forget where you are.... |

Hey those were two different questions. Yes I separate my food garbage, but at my apartment complex I don't need to buy the bags (there are separate bins for food garbage) |

My employer/landlord apparently is exempt from all local trash laws. Nor do they appear to care much for the enviornment. |

It's my most hated job. The food waste bin outside our building contains the vilest smell known to man. I swear it sticks to your clothes after just opening the lid for 5 seconds. |

yes...i separate everything because that's the eco-friendly way. This is something you should be doing no matter where you are (it's not just a Korean thing...) |

I wouldn't mind so much if it were going to compost, and anything plant based was suitable. From what I understand though- those little baggies are sorted as animal feed, so you're not supposed to include pepper seeds and onion skins and things that might make the animals sick.
I'm all for helping the environment, but I don't like being forced to pay to support the farmers, who's industry I don't support in principle. |

yeah...you can't put in egg shells or onion skins. Actually, I originally thought that is was being used for soil enrichment ala composting but yeah...it's animal feed. However, I do feel that this is a better use of these materials...even for vegetarians. |

It all ends up in the same place everyone. No I don't. It will all end up in the same landfill. What is the point? |

I never heard this about egg shells and onions skins and have been putting them in all the time. I guess I'll stop.
How about kimchi? And aren't some of us putting our questionable food materials (i.e. rotten or nearly rotten) in there? Is that suitable for animal feed????
I thought it was for compost. |

umm....well...it doesn't all go the same place...especially recyclables and the point is that unless the amount of waste that goes to landfills is curbed then we're all gonna be in a pretty fucked up situation. |

and the whole rotten/mouldy thing is what made me think that it went towards soil enrichment/composting as opposed to animal feed so that has me confused somewhat. Buy...ya know....it would probaly be feed for pigs so..... |
